MobiSev
What are the differences between the two artillery pieces? Is one more accurate than the other? Which one would you consider to be "better"? Northstar98
What are the differences between the two artillery pieces? Is one more accurate than the other? Which one would you consider to be "better"? M109 is tracked self-propelled howitzer armed with a 155mm gun. Came into service in the late 60s max RoF is 4 rounds per minute for 3 minutes, but sustained is more life 1. Max range is 14-16km. SpGH Dana is a longer, wheeled self-propelled howitzer, it has a 152mm gun. Came into service 1980~ It's gun has a semi-automatic firing mode using an autoloader (though RoF is about the same). It doesn't have any automatic gun laying. Range of about 18-20km ammunition dependent (Dana can also be used for direct-fire). Can't really comment on accuracy. Modules I own: F-14A/B, Mi-24P, AV-8B N/A, AJS 37, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Also, by your description I believe you think the Dana is better in-game? Kang
It's the more modern piece of equipment for sure. There often is no definite 'better' about questions like that. They are both rather large calibre self-propelled guns doing a similar job, all in all. Tracks probably help the Paladin's rough field mobility a bit, which isn't an issue in DCS. The wheeled Dana might go faster on roads and be easier to maintain, also not really an issue in DCS.
Fri13
Direct Fire? Also, by your description I believe you think the Dana is better in-game? Direct for means you can engage ground targets like a normal cannon. So now you have a very powerful anti-tank cannon as well, 152-EPrSv shells shot at anything on ground directly, instead at high arch. Dana should be better than m109 by its mobility, speed, readiness and rate of fire in long shelling periods. It should be easily moved after firing, so counter artillery doesn't hit it. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K. DmitriKozlowsky
M109A6 Paladin has range in excess of 35km, and more (classified) with RAP (Rocket Assisted Projectile). RAP is also called basebleed in some designs. When properly laid and accurately positioned, via MILSPEC GPS (accurate to classified meters), with accurate met report, M109A6 can place a 155mm HE/PD round into a manhole from 20km. With Excalibur encrypted GPS guided ammunition, it can place a round into 5 meter square from maximum range. Exact accuracy is classified. Excalibur also allows targeting of enemy on reverse slope or in defilade, by exploiting non-ballistic trajectory. Meaning that the round can impact target from opposite azimuth , of line of fire. There is also, dwindling, stocks of laser guided Copperhead rounds. M109A5/A6 can use any 155mm ammunition conforming to NATO STANAG specification for 155mm rounds. Common engagement round in high intensity peer opponent is an ICM munition, which is a cluster munition dispenser , ejecting IR fused skeets, similar to CBU-97 WCMD . For some reason US. Army does not like auto-loaders.
