Is it planned to extend the TC-1 map on the A-10C map size?
like TC-2 or a pure extension map only with the east area, loke TC-1.5?

Well, I can’t promise anything at the moment, but just to inform you that already for some time I’m working on the new map. It is supposed to be completely new map, not just extension to the east.

You are a legend igormk! I'm looking forward to purchasing the new map (your FC2 version is beautiful).

Hi guys.....I think nice post...."Post a low-res picture of the actual map in the Fighter Collection store so people there can see what they are about to purchase (the store picture in the has arrows on the map, which I presume is packaging and is a bit misleading and I would hope is not on the purchased map). Otherwise people will be trying to make a purchasing decision somewhat 'blind'"........

regards.

The scale is 1:500,000

The total size is 1050mm x 1400mm, and is folded to the size of 210mm x 280mm.

The cost is £15.99 and initially will be available from
http://fighter-collection.com/pages/...tion/index.php

Hopefully it will soon become available from specialist sites such as Amazon, Simware and GoGamer etc.

Postage and packing will be extra. Shipped from the UK, we estimate the average costs to be:
Europe £3.77
Rest of the World £5.71

Course bearings: The Geo Grid (which should be taken as a reference to measure courses with plotter or protractor) will give “True” headings, and the average “magnetic declination” for this region is -5 degrees, meaning that you have to subtract 5 degrees from the measured heading on the map in order to get the magnetic heading for your flight. For those who require greater accuracy, the attachment on the DCS post shows the magnetic declination across the whole map.

Of course a map is useless unless you can draw on it and then erase!

I have tested 2 techniques:-

Apply thin self adhesive film (i.e. http://www.paperstone.co.uk/cat_1-36...sive-Film.aspx)

Being lazy, I tried to cover the map in one pass. DO NOT DO THIS. The map crinkles as you apply the film and ends up as a mess!
The best strategy is to apply small areas (say 210mm x 280mm or 420mm x 560mm) with a slight overlap.
It is a 2 person operation, one to hold the map and the other to apply the film (I used the edge of a ruler). I strongly advise that you practice on any large piece of paper before laminating your tactical map so that you find a correct procedure.

The second option is to apply something like map seal (http://www.dailyhiker.com/gear/revie...seal-map-seal/)
The instructions are that you should allow it to cure for 72 hours. They are correct. I tried writing on it after 24 hours with unfortunate results!
The advantage of map seal is that it is very easy to apply. However I am not so certain about the durability of frequent writing and erasing on the surface.

I tested on the surfaces with:-
• Non permanent markers
• Wet eraze chalk markers
• Lumocolour Whiteboard markers
• Pilot markers (erase by rubbing)
All worked well on the film. Pilot markers seem to work best on map seal.
To erase I used whiteboard cleaner or a damp cloth for markers that were water soluble.

Personally I will continue to use film, which although takes time and care by 2 persons to apply, gives a foolproof long lasting result to write on and erase.

For those squadrons that have a standard bullseye for missions, you can of course mark up the bullseye before applying film or map seal.

Last but not least, greatest thanks go to Igormk who spent many dedicated months in producing this map.

For those with access to large scale printers, the map will be available as a free download from the DCS download section.
Hi,

(I realize this post subject is old news, but maybe I can be useful to you.)

I used to do a lot of hiking in the Northeastern United States mountain areas on trails and bushwhacking. 1970's I only used the paper USGS topographic quadrangles, pencil and eraser. Maps were cheap enough to purchase another one if necessary. Map was put inside a waterproof plastic case, ziplock, with neck strap.

The best maps currently for hiking are made out of a waterproof material. All map trails and topo contours are GPS and other sources, but very accurate. The outfit is called "The New York / New Jersey Trail Conference" .

http://www.nynjtc.org

Contact them and pick brains with the cartographers as to how to write on maps and the material they use.

Actually, the images on the TC-1 map, Edition 1, as to arrows, jet aircraft and the helicopter and its shadow images are represented as it is on the map, lower left hand corner and its bar-code. The map measures approximately 41 inches high by 54.5 inches long.

I will visit a print shop and pick brains for ideas, but thinking I will mount it on something like FRP fiberglass shower board as a backing board that will not absorb or hold water and a top piece of clear acrylic. I will probably use rubber cement as glue to the back of the map and the clear side of the FRP and #8 diameter machine screws and nuts to hold the acrylic top together. Then I can use a grease pencil to write with and it wipes off when done.

This map is really too large for my small computer, office space. Mounting it on a big sheet will be practical for me to have ready access to it.

Since the Warthog has its own map in its computer, (don't know much about the Black Shark), the map's main purpose, for me, will be using it with Flaming Cliffs.

This map reminds me of my miltary map reading and training days.

It is a very good quality map, but a better material would be like my previous message link.

http://www.nynjtc.org/catalog/15/maps

Those maps are like a USA dollar bill, hard to tear, waterproof and you can wad it in a ball, un-wad it and good to go.

to expand on JimMack's (R.I.P.) post, I've dissected the sold map into the original folds and got some nice A4 sectionals that I got laminated at a local printing store. Should work well with sharpie's and I was about to go on a long flight from Batumi to Anapa with the P-51D, except that it constantly overheated in oil or coolant and I got progressively frustrated.

Here are the sectionals on my bed:
