HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

You'll need steamVR, but you DON'T need DCS purchased within Steam. I run the DCS openBeta and it's fine. You just need to make sure that steamVR is running.

*AND* Windows Mixed Reality drivers. Both are required as Reverb is a WMR headset.

I'm in the process of backing up my fresh built 1903 Windows so I can go back to 1803 w/o the WMR bug. When it's fixed, I'll boot to the 1903 backup image and update as necessary. Since the Reverb is coming tomorrow, I want the best possible setup to compare P5K+ and the Reverb.

You can read through the thread (not that long) here:

Basically, the penalty is greater the more resolution your HMD can handle. Since you won't be able to take advantage of the added resolution. If O+ users noticed it, every HMD with greater resolution will suffer as well.

The worse part is, the guy from MS (Geoff) who was active on reddit with the info left MS. Crapola. Granted, one engineer won't affect the release train *that* much, but it couldn't have hurt either.

The thing is, I can’t make any sense of this supposed bug. I mean, resolution couldn’t have been any sharper in Cliff House. So, I really have my doubts about this.

Dumb question, but can you play Oculus store games with the Reverb? I ask because I have a lot of games and I wasnt happy at all with the Rift S and returned it, so Im likely moving to something better.

It's acknowledge by Microsoft that resolution is limited with 1903. Anyhoo, I'm back on 1803, paused the update until July so I'll stay here until a fix comes. Then boot into 1903.

I still have quite a lot of trouble with getting the Reverb to track my head movements in the cockpit. Rotating (looking around) works fine, but tracking backwards and forwards, laterally etc seems to be really finicky. Most times I start up DCS it just won't work but springs into life later on, usually propelling my ten feet above my cockpit so I have to recentre myself. It's very frustrating. Does anyone have any insight as to the nature of this problem?

Lighting is always a problem with inside out tracking. And I *believe* Reverb has less cameras than Rift S. So make sure you have decent lighting, and not just a blank white wall.

This.

The cameras need contrast to lock onto. Blank walls ect do not provide the same contrast as say a wall with patterned wallpaper. Same with dark rooms.

I noticed a drop off in tracking performance last night and it was only dusk. It still tracked, but the odd glitch started creeping in.

Yes, I think you're right about this. I've experimented with having my main light on and it seems to coincide with an improvement in tracking. I was hoping the LED lights in front of me around my window might be enough for the Reverb to be able to track but I guess not.

I'm going to hang on to my Vive IR station. It'll always lock on to it, I'm guessing. But my Odyssey did OK, so I should be good (I hope). There's enough clutter for tracking.

Where? Apart from one guy on Reddit, I’m struggling to see anything on this.

Also, I’m struggling to see how this is ‘proven’ by changing a parameter in a SteamVR settings file. What if you don’t use SteamVR?

I’m not convinced about this on the Reverb.

I think there would be a huge amount of people complaining if their res had been halved in a Windows update! All WMR headsets would be affected.

The low price was $300 so $150 + shipping sounds about right.

I'm thinking about upgrading to the Reverb but I need to find a surgeon to change my IPD to 63. Probably have to remove 4mm from the part of the brain connecting the two halves but I don't think that'll have any effect on my flight simming. I usually donate old computer gear to the high school computer instructor but in this case I'll keep the Samsung controllers after making sure they can pair with the Reverb.

I never set the price as low as I'll accept as people always will offer you less. I put up my CV1 for sale for $230 because everyone else around me had theirs for $250 and up. I got offers as $150 but I didn't accept.

On eBay you can look at completed sold listings of the Cv1 and Odyssey and see that most of them sold for around $200.

So, the returns process with HP was pretty horrible. Not exactly Amazon like!

Firstly, I filled in the online form, then I got an email from HP to say someone would be in contact.

A few days later, I got an email asking me to call a Tech Support number to get a Case Ref Number in order to process the return.

I waited 25 minutes in a queue after selecting the correct options on the phone, then I got through to someone, and after explaining the whole situation and giving serial numbers, etc. I was told I had to go through to the commercial department.

So, another 10 minute wait. I then explained the situation again with serial numbers, etc. and was told I had to go through to the commercial department! (You mean, you're not it?)

I then spoke to someone who actually was in the commercial department who asked me for serial numbers, invoice number, my address, my email etc. etc., and when I asked why this was not all on his system, he said that only the sales department can see that kind of info!

After about another 20 minutes of 'going through troubleshooting' that was mostly irrelevant, emails back and fore with my invoice etc., I eventually go the Case Reference Number which I now have to send through to the hpstoreuk.postsales people!

Honestly, it's a far cry from the one click Amazon system,

And, it's not over yet! Phew!
