TM Warthog stick – looking for a precision replacement gimbal

Recommended Posts

I suppose that most of us TM Warthog users are not really happy with the precision of the standard gimbal. Even if sanded and regreased it can’t really be compared with the mechanics of a VKB stick (http://forums.mudspike.com/t/new-gimbal-and-fat-black-mamba-joystick-orders-update/1386).

In my opinion the Warthog stick is very good, but the gimbal could be much better. That’s why I’m looking for a precision replacement gimbal, but I would still want to use the original base-plate and stick. The replacement gimbal should be compact enough to fit into the stock enclosure or be a drop-in replacement part like the FSSB R3 Warthog(http://realsimulator.com/html/fssb_r3_warthog.html).

I’m still thinking about buying the FSSB R3 Warthog, but I’m flying the A-10C most of the time, so a force sensing stick is not really what I’m looking for. A good displacement gimbal would be exactly what I need.

There’s been some discussion about this on the forum here (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=171006&highlight=worst+gimbal) and I think that Thadiun Okona’s prototype looks very promising, but there’s nothing new about it since July 2016.

Anyone here who knows about such a mechanical replacement gimbal and where it can be purchased? I know there is a Warthog Grip Adaptor for VKB Sticks, but that’s not what I’m looking for, because I don’t need all those switches and potentiometers integrated in the Black Mamba base.

Until now no one did for sell a bolt on replacement gimbal (like UberNXT for Cougar) for Warthog.

Think the issue is their "3D" hall sensor, what require a specific gimbal type.

VKB and BAUR CAM gimbals is done for separate sensor in X, Y axis, not "3D" like in Warthog.

Is need something in this line: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5104-project-x-55-germany-mod/

This was done with R/C helicopter swashplate - but complicate spring placement.

I'm curious about this setup myself, but 500 bucks seems expensive. Anybody test it out?

Well, careful with these if you plan to use them anywhere other than on a desktop, where anything can bump into the grip. The sensor seem to be very sensitive to excessive pressure.

I have been in contact with the guys over at realsimulator. They are based in spain actually. They actually told NOT to buy from them because I have my joystick mounted on my chair. They told me they were looking into making a sturdier version but no ETA. I have lost interest and will wait for the Gunfighter.

Happy flying !

The VKB Gunfighter seems to be a good alternative, as soon as the base and the Warthog adapter will be available. http://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=vkb-sim-gunfighter-base-only
