Turning off irritating zoom out at start?

Is there any way of turning off the irritating zoom out that occurs in every module at the start of every mission?

Why ED ignoring the community... I don't understand? This annoying feature does not give any benefit.

The solution in the future, in the settings of the special could be an option to turn off the annoying zoom.

Hey imacken, you should have started a poll on this, to really see how others feel by numbers. I vote ditch it, not needed.

It doesn't bother me tho, I guess it's getting to you :)

I would rather on a cold start have the pilot walk up and jump in automatic etc, ground hot start or air start, just get placed in the jet, no zoom back thinggy;)

It must have been an idea of someone high up in the hierarchy, soooo, it might be hard for someone to let go....:music_whistling:

The way I deal with it is by having slow zoom assigned to my longitudinal TrackIR axis. Then the camera zooms out slowly, but then immediately flips back to "correct" FoV by itself.

Judging from numerous posts on this subject throughout past years, I don't think there's other way to avoid it.

+1

It's been discussed before and this 'feature' annoys me, as well as many others it seems. This must surely be a relatively easy thing to change. A nice, easy quality of life fix that ED could do and make us happy.

If it isn't easy, just let us know!

Yes, kill it with fire - in 1.5.8 the zooming out caused my DCS to hang (like a stutter, but one lasting up to half a minute long)., and I had to wait for it to stop before my frames returned to normal. If I immediately starting using my assigned zoom keys I wouldn't experience any annoying hanging.

The zooming out thing serves no purpose at all IMO apart from to annoyingly (after a while) delay start-up.

I remember when games came on cassette tapes and could take up to half hour to load (looking at you Gauntlet on the Atari 800XL), now we can't even wait a few seconds to press Enter?

We had no choice with cassette loading times. We can easily have the choice to remove this irritation which means having to zoom back in after the auto zoom out occurs. It should default to the mid point of the zoom axis as set by the player for each aircraft.

It should clearly be an option, it has no benefit for gameplay and no good reason for being there.

Why is this even in the game? There must be some reason someone made a conscious decision to add it.

While I agree it should be an option to turn it off, I think I would miss it if it was removed.

I kind of agree lol, it doesn't particularly bother me (although I find it a bit strange). If it were gone I would feel like *something* were missing, I would look back in fondness on the days I spent perplexed by this strange little quirk :P

People are expressing their opinion. What's wrong with that? Maybe if the horse is flogged enough, then someone will take pity on it!

Since, after many years, ED has never even offered an explanation for it, I doubt anything will change.

You can hardly talk about the "me me, now now" attitude, when the feature was said to be removed in time seven years ago, and people have been asking for this for a long time.

And just because some people don't see it as an issue, many do. Be glad it doesn't bother you. Small things can drive you nuts...

Exactly

Especially since the zooming results in a massive stutter for me, DCS stops for what feels like a considerable time, once it finishes and the zoom is how I desire DCS returns to having reasonable performance. Now I understand that it's my barely adequate system specifications that causes this issue, but it still does not need to be there - it serves no real purpose. If it's not an issue for people fine. But for others it can be irritating. If it's going to be a problem with it gone we can reach a mutual agreement - make it optional, therefore both sides are satisfied - the people that don't want it to have to have it, and the people that want it don't have to have it taken away from them - win win situation.
