Your project really intrigues me and I would like to try it as the parts seem to be reasonably priced. However, I do have some questions.

1. I have 10 thumbs so some step by step instructions would help.

2. What is the 2 mm plexi box (laser cutted)? what is it used for and where did you get it or did you make it yourself?

Sorry to be a pain, but electronics is not my hobby.

Will this USB powered Hub be ok?

  • Fully USB 2.0 compliant (backwards compatible with USB 1.1)
  • 3000mA supply to power the hungriest of gadgets
  • 5.2V rich voltage to avoid brownouts
  • Multi TT processor for the best possible Raspberry Pi performance
  • 4 high-power USB ports for reliable Pi Power (also great for phones, hard disks, anything!)
  • Will run from bus-power in the absence of a power brick
  • CE and FCC approved for EMI good behaviour.

I'm going to prepare photo instruction, be patient please.

Your USB HUB is OK. Consumption of one unit (LCD+board) is not more than 5 watts (together maximum 10 watts). Your HUB is able to power 15 watts.

I try to create pictures today. If I do not succeed today the images will be ready this weekend.

Please note: this solution requires two HDMI (digital) video outputs.

Unfortunately, when I tried to order the parts from the original links the result was that they would not ship to NH USA for some reason.

I was able to nail down these same parts on ebay for a total of 137.50 USD.

The panels were 47.49 each but the seller agreed to sell me both for 90.

The HDMI controller boards were 23.75 ea.

I am anxiously awaiting the vector plan for the cutting of frames. I have access to a water jet cutting table and a friend that knows how to use it. Will these plans be something that we can use easily to cut on using a water jet cutter?

Thanks for the great mod idea!

Is there any chance that someone would produce a number of the plexiglass cutouts for those that want this done for them? Of course a markup for labor would be reasonable to add.

I have a friend who owns a welding and water jet cutting business. If this turns out to be relatively easy I will ask him if he can provide cutting services for others and at what cost.

I am anticipating that speedbird will be posting the vector plans this weekend. Hopefully even sooner...? :music_whistling:

Vector plan uploaded now (look into main instruction attachments area).

Thanks SpeedBird!

I have a question. The person that is going to cut the panels for me needed a .dfx file format. So I used a converter to convert both the pdf and svg files to .dxf. The only issue is that when he tries to take measurements from them he ends up with different figures depending on which converted .dxf he looks at.

I have attached a pdf image of what I believe is the closer of the two. Can you tell me if these measurements are correct?

Thanks again......
