The SU-30 FAMILY PROJECT is Back

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I think it's time to bring back a plane that a lot of you were waiting for, i'm talking about the SU-30 and especially the COMBATACE SU-30

Combatace agreed to send me his SU-30 Model to work on it and bring it back to DCS , but the problem is that i dont know any f**** thing about arguments, 3DS etc, i'm good at making skins but that's it

so i made a plan but i need a team or at least people that can help in the comunity so we can bring this baby back together

here is a list of what i want to do:

- The main work i think will be tweaking and improving the 3D model

- The plane dynamics will use the SU-33 PFM and base (or if someone know how the modify the flying model??) so it will be refuelable but the refueling boom position must match the one on the 33.

- There will be two planes (Su-30 SM/MKI/A/M) with canards and TVC, and SU-30M2 without . the old version used one slot for the two and the switching was possible by changing the bort number (80---99) to make the canards appear.

HELP!!!

I can help some to bring it up to standard if needed, depends on the state of the model.

if its a complete revamp from zero animations and uv maps prolly not,

if its a matter of upgrades to args and already unwrapped materials, then yes.

Making the animations including the tvc animation is easy ,as for the flight model of the Su_33 pfm it can't be moddified so we would have to use it's full pfm flight model and avionics for everything to work including refueling animation,I would proudly work on this but as you all know I am computerless untill I build my new build, don't really know how long it might take me to get back on my feet.

awesome nes Gizmondo ! The Su30 by combatace was my fav mod plane during Flaming Cliffs era...

Nice this thing comes back into life !!

Pls ED integrate at least the new 3D model into vanilla DCS Su30 then !

most of the tasks are easily done, you can add some code via LUAs to adjust some things,

the only issue is the 3D Artists that are proficient at these tasks are already very busy,

For example, I myself am involved in at least a dozen projects, not counting my own, and lend freely help to others when needed.

But I'd:

-Make Any Changes to Model (Add Parts, Change Parts etc), Integrate new Texture coordinates into current UV Maps

-Converting Textures to Current Style of Specular and PBR

-Integrate New Lights Systems and Animations

-Integrate Layered Composite Textures for Aircraft Bort Numbers

-Integrate Vapor (Just Because).

-Integrate Extra Arguments for Canards, which can also be Set to be Livery Dependent instead of Bort Linked.

-Code and Integrate Secondary Cockpit LUA Systems for Trust Vectoring Control.

Ohhh thanks a lot guys, I can send you the Model via PM for those who want

Might be able to work on it this weekend, however i can prep the scene in max for the changes during the week.

I'd do two separate aircraft though, w/ canards, using Su-33, w/o use Su-27.

Another thing overlooked, is if you are going to use the respective PFMs, the Args and Collision Model components must match the names in the PFM.

TVC will work Visually, but the PFM would need to have it integrated to actually have any function outside of visual nozzle movement.

Right now I still run Max 2011,

So until upgrade (unlikely due to cost and some platforms not supporting newer versions),

-or-

Someone else is able to convert the Max 2014 Scene back to Max 2011 Scene I will not be able to do anything. (Max 2014 should have a Save as Max 2011 Option).

Skatezilla please make this a good Su-30 mod we need one,you have the skills to make this happen I have noticed that you do great work to your projects and I'm sure this will be the same if you work on it, someone needs to help skate with the 2011 file.

Got the Max File Converted back to 2011 (Thanks Razor)

My Issue right now is the Materials are a mess and poorly organized, half the meshes have different materials w/ the same name so I have to repeatedly convert the same map multiple times.

I need to go through mesh by mesh and re-export UVWs and make global materials per channel to replace the duplicates.

Likely a Side effect of the MKI and M2 being the same aircraft, I'll end up separating them and giving them separate shapes.

Just trying to get materials loading at this point, once I've sorted it out..

Most if not all of the animations are intact, it's just a matter of matching them to the new Models and Collision Models for the PFMs to be used. (ie Su-27 has Abnormal Animation IDs).

So Far:

-Separating M2 from MKI parts, deleting the Animation (M2 and MKI will be separate Aircraft)

-Renaming Meshes to more informative names

-Grouping MKI and M2 Meshes to Easily Swap them

-Preparing to Globally Re-Do the Materials/Material Names

-Prepare New Specular maps, As Well as PBR RoughMet Maps

-Prepare New Glass Maps

-Prepare New Aircraft Number Maps

If you have layered photoshop templates I need those to make new Specular/Normal/RoughMet maps.

So, I Finished Grouping the MKI and MK2 Meshes so they are swap-able.

I should start re-Doing materials this weekend, Edit: I Will Retain the Dual Materials for the Different Fuselage Shapes.

Once the materials are done, I'll start cleaning up the damage textures/meshes as well, a lot of redundant meshes to clean up, and rename.

Then it's a lot of General Purpose Cleanup (making sure it only loads the new Materials and not the old ones, etc).

Once the model is in a decent state and all changes are made I'll re-do the lighting systems and start integrating Specular, Bump and RoughMet maps.

Once I get a better picture of what is taking shape, I'll start making the Folders, UI Art and LUAs for the separate Airframes (Su-30 MKI and Su-30 MK2)
