Gaming on an Ultra-wide monitor???

Recommended Posts

Up grading my system and was curios to know what people thought of playing DCS on an ultr-wide? Can we set up a 5,120 x 1,440 resolution? New system: i9-9900KS, EVGA RTX 2080 TI FTW3 Ultra Gaming, GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS MASTER, SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe PCI-E 1TB, G.SKILL Trident Z RGB Series 64GB(4x16GB) 3200MHz C14, CORSAIR iCUE H150i RGB PRO XT...You get the idea. Any constructive remarks welcome and have a great day.

I think that resolution is Superwide. I have an ultrawide, which is 3440×1440. Works well in most games including DCS. The only thing I've experienced in DCS is many of the modules are too wide by default, so the edges are very distorted and the dash/gauges seem small and far away. I just modify the default view in each of them the first time I install them. Other than that little issue, it works beautifully.

Support may vary in different titles.

Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1

Dont forget battling in the air is 3-dimensional and having 5k wide is great...as long as you also have enough UP & DOWN.

In theory, 3 of those stacked upon each other was great so you had 3x1440 up/down too.

It will be a great monitor but I personally would prefer a 4k over this one as it has more ( 2160 ) up/down fov.

Kinda off topic, but the F-16 wingtips are pretty bendy, check out the angle of the 120s in the following pic.

But regarding the screen... I'm sure DCS works at that resolution, But It might be excessively wide and cut off a lot of the cockpit, Like a BitMaster I'd probably go for a 4K. But it depends what you're after I suppose.

Thanks for the feed back. A 4K in this size is $4600 Canadian, to get 144 Hz. This one is only $2000.00. Only...lol. Pay to play.

Hi,

Last weekend I was in an electronic market here in China, big TV are cheap... I am wondering how DCS would look on a 75” or 85” 4K screen, also 8K drop in price.

What would be the things to look at to select the right one?

Currently I use a 40” philips 4K Monitor and it looks good, but a simple pit with huge screen would be awesome.

VR is no option as I have eye issues with stereo viewing

Thanks

Love my 34 inch, 3440 x 1440 120hz Asus, great for practicing alone but for multiplayer formation I gotta use VR.

check out "The Warthog Cockpit Project" on YouTube. He uses projectors to paint a large view. This is "Romeo Kilo's" project. You can see his thread in detail in the INPUT and OUTPUT/Home Cockpits thread. When he pulls the EJECT seat handle was pretty funny.

I wont hijack the thread, but my question seems to be fitting in here, hence its vice versa ultra-wide.

Im playing DCS until now onto a 22" CRT display (pls dont laugh too hard) and got after installation a windowed (nearly half-wide) screen to play.

At trying to enlarge to e.g. 1440 x 1280 the location of all buttons, prompts and handles are sliding downwards, so if im into the main config menue I have to slide the mouse to the desired icon and then pull it down until the icon is become highlighted. Thats no way to play so I enlarged it to the max and set full screen. That had made the negative effects much more better but not finally solved.

Now the question is, if DCS are into the actual 2.5.4 are be able to scale older monitors aside from LCD, LED, (…) or is the only way to come out of this is to buy a complete new display?

Thank you.

For that kind of money why not go VR? I have a 4k TV and never use it due to the superior immersion of VR with DCS. The higher hz won't really benefit you in DCS, of course if you're also playing FPS's it will help a lot.

Can you post a picture of your monitor configuration in the game? The setup menu where you can specify resolution, etc. I think something is wrong. Also, if you play in Window'ed mode, it slows down the game quite a bit. You want to check "maximize DCS" (or something close to it) in the setup menu.

Also, it looks like you're running into this. So have a look at this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4177085&postcount=1

I already have a Vive set up but I get motion sickness. On the waiting list for the new Index, hopefully the higher refresh rates will help.
