Ignoring Forums

Hi.

We can ignore a user and his/her posts. That's OK, but I'm curious, how about ignoring a whole forum or sub-forum? Is there a feature like this of this forum software?

I've just checked options, but no luck.

Thank you.

I cannot answer your question but i would like to point out two facts:

1: People we would like to ignore tend to ask questions we would never ask ourselves. At times this can be very informative.

2: Gold is hidden deep, under tons of sludge. (Sun Tzu)

example.... i know very little russian and i cannot read kyrilic, but having a sneak peak at the russian forum once in a while gives out ALLOT of info. (Especialy on woman and Votca though) :D

Ineth, it might not be about ignoring certain people, but certain (foreign language) subforums.

The way I use these pages is mostly via New Posts link at the top of the page. This, unfortunately lists *everything*. I would love to have that feature implemented on every forum subtree, so you could go to ED / German or ED / English / 3rd party developers / Leatherneck and see what is new for that given subtree.

How do you ignore users?

Go to User CP, and see the Edit Ignore List menu on the left side column. :)

Günaydın brother! Thanks for attention, but I think Gerd is right. I just want to eliminate some posts coming from some sub-forums in New Posts function, that's it.

I think, as Gerd suggested, the only way is to visit forums directly, if I want to avoid from unnecessary threads to me.

By the way Ineth; you could think about using signature feature of forum, so you won't have to paste your sign in every post of yours.

To do so, go to User CP, and see the Edit Signature menu-item on the left side column. :D See you; best wishes...

Yeah, ignoring foreign language forums should be a realistic option.

Actually I also do want this for some new subforums; For example, today a new module is released, tomorrow you'll see thousands of pages and threads in New Posts and you'll be lost in threads!

If a feature of forum can filter some forums that you don't want to see (at least temporarily), it will be more healthy to follow up the posts.

There are include and exclude options for specific forums that you can use with the New Posts function. Pick which ever requires the least forums. I use this as my shortcut to the forums, for example:

http://forums.eagle.ru/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=20,24,25,26,27,28,30,31,33,35,37,39,42,43,44,45,49,50,52,54,61,62,64,73,74,79,81,84,85,98,99,100,109,112,152,172,115,116,117,118,119,120,121,144,145,172,199,257,275,295,325,327,328,333,345,384,97,98,99,100,145,464,456

That excludes most (all?) of the current non-English language forums.

Anyway, it will take a little bit of time/research to get all of the forum and sub-forum (and sub-sub-forum) ID's, but once you do it it just requires periodic adjustments when new forums are added, which is easy.

*EDIT* When I say that there are include and exclude options, I only mean as arguments to the getnew.php string in the URL. I don't know of any other way to do what you're asking.

Once upon a time it was modification for vBulletin:

I do not know if he's still there or something similar.

OH! THAT'S IT!

I got it. Get the forum ID and add to exclude command. Love it! :D

Thanks a lot Alpha! Really. :)

Hi...

Instead researching all forum IDs that we don't want to see, you may get forum IDs that you want to see with include command:

https://forums.eagle.ru/search.php?do=getnew&include=105,106

f=105 is Official Updates and f=106 is Community News, for example.

:idiot:
