screen recording software

Recommended Posts

What programme do you guys recommend for screen recording? Preferably something simple without having to go through tons of settings.

Thanks in advance!

If you have an Nvidia card, you can try Shadowplay, which is already part of your Geforce experience install package. You could also try Fraps.

OBS is free, open source software and I've found that it works very well, it utilises a mix of CPU and GPU, very little impact on FPS on my weird rig.

Shadowplay requires GeForce Experience/Nvidia account though.

On the commercial front, Camtasia from Techsmith (makers of SnagIt) is pretty awesome. But screen recording in general can be taxing to the system. So be aware. It's what I use for the Wireshark videos and it's very simple to use.

If you want real simple and you have Win 10 XBOX recorder works a treat and minimal resource impact.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Geforce experience did get kind of stupid with requiring a login, but tbh I hardly ever notice that it's running unless it tells me there's a new update to download.

NV Share works great though imo, I'm able to record @ 4k with like 135 bitrate and still maintain decent FPS. The video files get huge, but I'm also able to edit and render them to 3440x1440 so fellow 21:9 users get a nice full screen view that's almost as good in quality as what I see on my monitor when flying.

If you plan on doing editing/rendering, I'd recommend software that allows for setting specific framerates. I'm using Sony Vegas 14 Pro but I got it for dirt cheap, and found the nicest thing about it was being able to set the framerate to the thousandths. i.e 59.835. I mention this because the rendering suite i used before was Davinci which only allowed preset framerates, which sometimes caused clipping with my NVShare videos which had slightly different values of framerate.

I have Bandicam, although I haven't compared it to any other product.

It's very easy to use, and doesn't seem to consume a lot of resources. (I have it set up to encode using the NVidia codec).

I was using Action screen recording software, for some reason it's stopped recording sound? Had it for ages and has worked well, could be something in dcs messing with it? Just using fraps at the moment, hasn't been updated in a bit, still works tho. Rendered with sony vegas 1440p @ 60 fps

Latest masterpiece

Almost an inflight engagement

I'm using Action recording software again now, I had a setting in win 10 not allowing some apps to have access to sound/mic off.

Must have been on one of the last updates that changed something? wouldn't allow Action to record sound in DCS. Anyway now it's all working again after turning the sound setting back on.

I use the Nvidia tool for recording or streaming. For me that was the most intuitive to use and has all the options I need for my small needs.

Since I really never found an easy & intuitive tool to edit those vids I ended up streaming only. I have no time for editing videos of 1h length or such. Jesus, even this 8700k at 5G was sweating. When I did that I wished I had a 1950X at 4G LoL. No really, I am no artist. I better leave that for others. Gimme a screwdriver instead ;)

I honestly can't "feel" that there is something else running torpedoing my flight. No, not that I could tell.

What I have tweaked is the destination folder for my recordings, that is a separate drive, not OS and not DCS but an old 2TB HDD, works great.

I'm having probs with Action as well with sound.. So I'm using OBS or DxTory..

Also OT I can't get sound in my editing software.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Check your privacy settings under win 10, MS changed something?

Turn on Allow apps to access mic. I had all this stuff off and Action still worked? I'm guessing it was allowed because it was installed, not anymore? Anyway it works if you turn this back on, possibly the same with your editing software.
