More like because the 30mm is more effective than the 12.7, and the 30mm is operated by the pilot not the gunner.
But it would be nice if we could have both versions.

The gunner will be able to guide the anti tank missiles.

The gunner can fully use all armament types that are onboard, meaning the 30 mm GSh-30K, unguided rockets, KMGU dispensers, bombs and of course Shturm-V ATGM complex. For unguided armament he has a PKV sight, just like the one in Mi-8MTV-2.

Here are some photos of his cockpit.

Spoiler:

Sight and guidance "stick" (only left handle of it is visible) for Shturm-V ATGM complex

Spoiler:

Cyclic control stick and right pedal (small metallic stick coming out of cockpit wall )

Spoiler:

ASO-2V flare dispenser panel

Spoiler:

Closer look at the front panel, on lower left side you can see the armament select panel, having 5-position selector, positions are, from left to right, Off (ОТКЛ), 30 mm cannon (НПУ-30), unguided rockets (НРС), bombs (АБ), KMGU munition dispenser (КМГ).

Spoiler:

PKV sight

Spoiler:

And finally, missile launch

Spoiler:

Would assume normal the Pilot use the forward fixed Weapons in normal Operations 30mm Gun and Rockets?
And the Gunner takes over flight controls and these Weapons only when the Pilot unconscious or wounded?
I am on the right Track?

Yes you are, and not only when the pilot is unconscious/wounded, also it's possible to hand over the controls to gunner for training purposes.
