I find the trend is towards a Turkish-style pragmatic/moderate/inclusive political party rule, especially given the results of the Tunisian election. If that is the case, then this a huge vindication of the US/European policy with regards to the Arab 'Spring'. Really far-sighted and courageous imho.

The new Libyan prime minister, Abdurrahim el-Keib, is an electrical engineering professor who taught at the University of Alabama for over 20 years. He's a dual Libyan-US citizen. While he may be an ally with Auburn's arch-rival :D, I wish him luck, and it makes me proud of my home state and for electrical engineers. In a parallel universe where I was born retarded and went instead to the University of Alabama, perhaps I had El-Keib as a professor :)

The funny thing was, at a conference last week on electric motors, I just randomly met a guy from Tunisia who is a personal friend of El-Keib. He was telling me how there is some pretty tense kinds of diplomacy going on... for example, apparently a group of armed militia just showed up outside and the new PM just walked out and talked them down.... yikes. I was told the main worry right now is making sure these citizen-soldiers just lay down their arms and return to normal life. Apparently, people are still just walking around with/toting around ZU-23s and RPGs.

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.
