Can anyone confirm that the company is still operational?

If not, i'm in the market for buying one so if anyone is selling or has 2 etc? I know, why would you have 2!! Lol!! Just saying....

Or if anyone knows an alternate site or source?

Many thanks.

I want to buy the A-10C manual from Lulu, but does it lay flat? If not, how do you guys get round the issue of referring to it when flying? Do they do a spiral bound version?

The F-16 manuals, which don't count as many pages, don't really lay flat, and forcing them flat will quickly dislocate some pages after a while. It's probably the same for the A-10C.

You should ask them, if they have to print it anyway that shouldn't be a big problem. Unless they need to respect some specifications given by the author.

It does not lay flat any better than a phone book, it is that thick. Here is a pic of mine, open to the middle, to give you an idea of what you would be getting.

Yep, that's what I thought. For me, spiral is essential, otherwise I'll just use my iPad next to the screen.

I do understand. Here is a pic of something that I started, about five years ago, when the A-10 was one of the two aircraft available.

2016-12-31%2011.09.09_zpsfmcyvkuo.jpg

Those are 5x7 pages. I edited what I wanted and created the pages as I needed them.

Btw, I actually checked into the cost of creating a spiral bound version. If I did the printing myself the cost was only around $10 to bind it. Two books is the way to go due to the number of pages.

So, I asked Lulu if they would spiral bind the manual, but they said no as the developers wouldn't allow it. Why, I wonder?

Anyway, for the price, the manual is very good, but as predicted, it is impossible to use with one hand, so any attempt to reference it whilst using the sim is pointless. As it won't sit flat, whenever it is put down, it has to be laid with the open pages face down. All in all, pretty cumbersome.

I also feel, that the quality of the black and white photos, especially of the cockpit, e.g. MFCDs, is poor, making them almost unreadable.

Still, for the money, I would say it is an essential purchase.

You should ask a local Kinkos, or equivalent, how much it would cost to print the PDF and spiral bind it.

If you're in the UK DoxDirect will do an A5 ring bound (not spiral bound) print of the PDF for just under 40 quid for black and white; don't ask about price of colour! :shocking:

Useful tip there, thanks.

Actually, DoxDirect would be £27 for A5 and £37 for A4!

Anyone want a hardly used spine bound manual for a very reasonable price!!

Ah, must have been A4 I was looking at. I've just ordered 4 of Chucks guides, reduced to A5 size (as they are not quite standard sized, so come with white border), spiral bound, black and white with colour cover, black card backing, for less than 20 quid in total, including delivery!

Apologies for resurrecting this thread if it was meant to be dead but I wanted to ask what you guys thought of the following quote from Doxdirect?

I figured that a ring bound manual would solve the lying flat issue.picture.php?albumid=1601&pictureid=10254

Not a bad price. I could do it cheaper with my laser printer (toner goes a very long way) and FedEx/Kinkos would bind (spiral bound) it for less than $15.

And then you'd have to ship a large heavy lump half way across the world

The shipping would cost a fortune. I appreciate the offer but I think I'll go local :)

Okay, I just ordered the manual printed in black & white (I am not made of money!), four ring binder, double sided with tabs for all the main sections. I take comfort from the knowledge that while I am reading it I can take a short break for some exercise and bench press the manual! :)

I do a small section at a time. I read it, make a few notes, and go fly. It doesn't cost a thing.

Printing the whole manual is money wasted. Only a part of it helps you learn the plane.

Not to worry BuzzU, this is just my method :)
