Once you have "installed & upgraded" from your 7 you can try if that works, if not, BLANK the drive and reinstall 10 from a USB drive ( tool available at MS, google it ).

YOu do NOT need a serial number to do this, MS takes note of your hardware and will allow it to be automatically activated once installed.

It pays to bind your 10-lic to your hotmail account, for that you need to log-in to 10 with your hotmail account. Once 10 is installed, 10 will ask you to do this. Once you logged in a few times you can go back to local log-in. Your 10 lic is then attached to your account and can be used on other hardware once this fails ( aka bad motherboard or changed hardware like GPU&SSD upgrade ! ). Takes 10 min and saves your lic

So I've downloaded the Windows 10 tool to a SUB drive... quick question, do you think it'll be better for me to wipe my drive and do a from scratch install or will it be ok to keep my files etc when i run the win10 upgrade?

Also, I"m assuming a bad drive has been ruled out? That can slow you down considerably, no? And use UEFI instead of MBR. That too has to be chosen before the OS is installed.

Is UEFI choose in the bios when booting from the USB on win 10 installation?

If you wipe the drive and start from scratch you will likely end with a 10 that cannot activate for free.

Do the UPGRADE FROM 7, then bind that install with a MS-Hotmail account ( for free ).

Then you can wipe any drive and do it from scratch. MS knows your HW fingerprint and will activate your install automaically.

Ok cool. All I've done so far was download the upgrade tool to a usb drive. I'll upgrade this afternoon then see where I am after that.

Yes mate. All sorted and activated. Haven't run dcs yet but wanted to get any other updates done 1st. Looking into how to do the bios update tonight.

Jester, i saw your CPU temps and voltage, u should definitely lower it down, 88 is too much, CPU begins to throttle, your temps should be around 60-70.

U will see after reinstall if everything is ok. MY advice, use stock clocks on your 7700k and then just overclock with the same default voltage. If its stable and fast enough with low temepratures, leave it that way.

Thanks for the advice, I have thought that my over clock could be a possible reason. I'm updating the bios tonight so will revert it the the stock 4ghz after and go from there.

Your CPU should work fine @4.5GHz without voltage increase ...

after my win10 update and a few other tweaks recommended in this thread, I started DCS and got a Error message saying

So an update, I've got DCS running perfectly in 4k on max settings now. Low level flight in built up areas on nttr and Normandy, I'm getting like 100 fps and anything up to 180 fps normally. 4k dcs is glorious.

1st load into a busy mission is like 30 - 40 seconds. Much quicker if its a simple mission.

Would be really great if you could post some pictures or when possible a video how does DCS look like with a 32“ or 40-42“ monitor as I am very interested in buying one of these monitors. Many thanks in advance guys
