Pixel Density Help Please

Bob Morton

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 2080ti and 32GB of RAM. I use Oculus VR mode and set the pixel density to 2.0, which I think is the minimum I want to put it at.

I find that at pixel density 2.0 it is kind of stuttery (low Frame Rate??).

Is there anything I can do?

Would getting another 2080ti in SLI make a difference? Would getting more RAM make a difference?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Lower PD . You have plenty of ram . DCS does not support SLI .

What's your CPU?

But indeed, lower the PD to around 1.3 - 1.5 or so. Maybe even start at 1.0, and then work your way up. You have the GPU horsepower, and RAM to do well.

Hi - my CPU is Intel i7-6700k 4.00ghz.

Thanks for the recommendation. Would it be better to have 2.0 pixel density and lower some of the other setting or better to have high on other settings and lower on pixel density. I currently have most stuff on high. What is the setting that is easiest to sacrifice and get more performance?

Sorry for all the noob questions but DCS is pretty overwhelming some times.

Your Pixel Density should be set at 1.3 as a base for your GPU and CPU, the stutters are most likely induced by high PD! Ive never heard of anyone running PD way up there and have a smooth experience.

32GB memory is perfect. If your using a CV1 and your IPD is within the S specs, buy the Rift S. if you're keeping the CV1, do the following:

Download and install Oculis Tray Tool.

Set supersampling to 1.6 global and force ASW at 45FPS

In DCS lower PD all the way to .50. Yes .50

Turn off all shadows (for now)

Set MSAA to 2x

Set visible distance to high, water high, textures high, terrain textures high, trees to 70%, preload radius 150,000, grass clutter low, chimney smoke off, cockpit global lighting off terrain object shadows off, cockpit global lighting off and rain drops on.

I flew the CV1 for a year and a half with an i7 6700K to start, then a 7700K and a 1080Ti. These are the settings I used before I completely upgraded and they were the best I'd seen.

Anything over 1.8 PD isn't really noticed and I would back down to it if nothing else. MSAA at 2x will make a huge difference but you won't be able to run that at anything over 1.6 with your 6700K even at 4.0Ghz.

Thank you! I have the Oculus Rift S. I really appreciate your help. I have been playing around with my setting to see what looks good and I settled on pixel density 2.0 and I then select the “medium” graphics option. It’s pretty nice. I think I will try what you recommend and see how it goes. Thank you.

I have found on my rig with Rift S PD set to 1.4 to be about the sweet spot, anything beyond that has diminishing returns.

But I can set fairly high graphics settings with that and it is gorgeous.

You need to lower your PD, as it will kill your fps. 2.0 is way to high, set it to 1.6 or 1.5..
