DCS WWII - Future

While I get where Bignewy is coming from, whether I entirely agree with the delivery is another matter, I think Phil is ultimately right in the engagement approach.

I think the ED know that people are always keen for more, but at the same time do not want to disappoint by promising too much too soon. We've all seen what happens when a developer does that (in any sim, not naming any names!) people get disgruntled in one way or another. So a newsletter outlining where things are up to, within reason, so for example:

January 2018 Newsletter:

We're working on X, Y & Z this month but the work that we were carrying out on V has overrun as we've encountered bugs with something or other.

Aircraft X

Progress on Aircraft X is going well with the flight model finished and the cockpit completed. We're now doinfg this, that and the other.

Terrain B

...

Developer C report

Developer D report

I think you get the idea. At the moment it does mostly seem to be news about sales. Whereas I think people want to know what is happening to the Spitfire and it's clipped wing variant or whether or not it will ever be able to carry bombs. Not setting a date for completion necessarily (unless there is one in mind or it is an announcement) so that people are not getting hopes up that it will be in less than two weeks. You know you'll get the innevitable "2 weeks be sure" comments. they're standard now.

It just stops rumours and fear-mongering and keeps people engaged. We're all keen customers for the product, some more so than others, but you've got a community that is clammouring for more all the time. You'll almost certainly neer keep up with demand but feeding a few snppets on a monthly basis - or fortnightly! - would probably save more than half of the questions that you get and keep people happy. It won't please everyone, there will always be someone that wants the F/A-18C yesterday, but the policy of it takes as long as it takes still stands.

I think a little reform or adaption here and there to keep customers more satisfied is never a bad thing; unless you're the one that has to do the extra work!

I am not going to say a lot, because Klem, Phil, Solty, Roblex and others have said it and I have said similar in other thread posts, or thought and felt similar frustrations. I would just like to say that I think this thread raises valid issues and that I would like to see/feel more vision and passion expressed by ED regarding this matter, because my confidence in ED being able to deliver is now extremely close to rock bottom.

Perhaps from the perspective of ED this is my/our personal problem and I/we are just not a 'fit' with DCS and they are content to see our custom and passion go elsewhere. I can't help it (because its my problem), but ED leaves me feeling down as a customer these days more often than not.

A more fleshed out vision of the future for WWII, some passionate expression, progress and updates would be very welcome. If I had to try and distil this all down, I would say that, in short, I am just not feeling the passion from ED.

Happy landings,

Here's just one proposal

All great in theory, but there isnt always something to show, as well when something is WIP, it can be a tough crowd to show early work to, no matter how much WIP tags are used, people take great pride in slamming, trashing or critiquing work that is clearly still being worked on. As well, showing early samples of work (which ED does do to some extent) also gives some wrong ideas on progress and they expect delivery sooner than they should.

Right now as well, its a special situation as well, they are maintaining so many version because of the transition to 2.5. This has added issues as far as where fixes are released, how they are communicated in patch notes, and a whole host of other logistical issues. 2.5 is the most important point to get to, and even then, it will take some time to settle down I am sure.

So for now, hold on to your professional consulting opinions, ED is well aware of the issues, they are trying to push forward with all these new things, while trying to basically support two release versions. Its a tricky situation.

Its not just WWII, its not just the Hornet, its everyone feeling the crunch right now. If you are not happy, take a break, come back when a new thing comes out, or when 2.5 hits. Its a bumpy road for everyone right now. The sim still brings me loads of fun through it all, but I know not everyone can see forward.

The clipped wings and bomb issue as been addressed many times already. ED cant repeat the same news every week because someone missed it here or there. In the product page it states clipped wings is planned. There really isnt much more ED can say to convey this.

Nothing every completely stops the rumours or fear-mongering because some people thrive on that, there is even a community site that I think is 100% focused on that. Some of this has to fall back on us the users to try and be more informed, maybe read a thread or search a forum.

I wont Say ED is 100% perfect on info delivery, the patch notes need work, but as I said above, there are other issues effecting this. But we have to do a little work ourselves to keep up with the news as well.

DCS WWII (On a road to Nowhere)?

This is why ED has trouble sharing as well, snotty comments like this. Look through the last 5 or so newsletters (or more), I know we have had WWII news. Maybe not the news YOU wanted, but saying its on a road to nowhere is just insulting to the devs that are working hard to create all these units and environment, get them working and get them out to us as soon as possible.

I was simply putting the feeling of the customers into a sentence and the ham fisted approach of deleting the original thread soured the mood somewhat.

No roadmap hence a "road to....?"

Please don't take it so personally and perhaps bare in mind that whilst you and the other mods have the privilege of seeing what ED are working on the rest of us are in the dark, a position that clearly quite a few people do not like being in.

While I may have a little more info than a normal user, you really have more info than you lead everyone to believe. Its been stated many times why there is no roadmap. And I will take it personally on behalf of all the guys working behind the scenes... you guys get news when there is news, you have been told what they are working on, they dont give time lines for obvious reasons.

You either need patience with DCS, or you need to take a break and check back as more news comes through. If the game isnt enjoyable for you, then take a break. As I said, I find new challenges in the sim everytime I load it up, but maybe you need more or something different.

This is the path we are on, either you ride along, or meet us at the next stop, but blowing issues up or downplaying the hard work being done by the devs doesnt fly here.

And even this new reply you insult the moderation here, we have very simple rules for people who fly a very complex simulation. I figured you guys should be able to follow those. If not, read the rules again.

As others have already stated all of this "amminosity" could easily be removed by communication.

When one of the previous team members chose to share with the community what he was working on the community responded well.

Communication is key.

Did I not just post links with WWII news?

And did you not read above where I said there is not always something to share?

Do you want a weekly update of We are working on X, Y, Z? Because I can do that. Here:

ED is currently hard to work on visibility, AI, and the Damage Model, more info to come.
