Normandy Map Discussion

Not sure about original idea, but for the moment we have few dozen airfields across Normandy. Most of them are ALGs built during june-july 1944.

Yes, we have trains.

Thanks for the reply! Sounds (and looks) great.

P.S.: from ED facebook

Very promising.

Now I don't want you to get the wrong idea, I like this very much and looking forward to it, however....

If it is an English countryside, then from foreground turf to the middle ground trees and those Downs in the background it is brilliant, that is where I live. The house detail is a bit flat (I don't really care about that) but most of all the tall grass/meadow weed/whatever really lets it down. Too white, needs to be greened up and slimmed down.

This is what our long grass looks like:

I know but I think it looks terrible and, as with CoD, I'll be turning it off. I don't think unrealistic waving grass serves any purpose in a flight sim except to eat frame rates. I don't recall mention of any airfields, even ALGs, being knee deep in grass.

Well you have see 1 or 2 pics, its unrealistic to think you have seen the final version. So no need to get too stressed about it. Enjoy the images for what they are, early treats...

Maybe a bit white, but I can see what they were aiming for :

Except when you're low and slow, in which case being visual animals, making the sim more visually persuasive adds to immersion.

Given that we have helicopters that can look at the ground from up close and SLOW, and Combined Arms who can park in the grass, and the possibility of landing fixed wings in pastures, seems worth sorting the low level graphics out...

That screen shot looks dam good to me, awsome job ED.

In comparison to the photo the grass isn't too far off, I guess this will change with the season?

That's a point, are different seasons planned for Normandy, or will it be fixed for summer 1944?

Were there many helicopters in Normandy, circa '44? :music_whistling:
