Out of curiosity, would it be possible to somehow fix the mouse pointer to the finger on the gloved hand the we get in VR in DCS with the touch controllers?

I used them for the first time last and it was actually quite cool and intuitive although far too cumbersome to use. Thought this might make it a bit more immersive.

That would be a DCS issue and not something related to PointCTRL, remember the sim just sees PointCTRL as a mouse and nothing else.

Yeah, I know. maybe the cross graphic could just be changed for a 3D hand like the Touch one. Maybe Wags could get ED to support it once he tries it. I’m sure we’re all looking for ways to make DCS more immersive, I’m just throwing my ideas out there.

I agree it's great news. And better news is how "Good enough" isn't in your vocabulary!

Once I have mine, I will be happy to test as well. #21. :-) :pilotfly:

Hi Miles, PointCTRL seems to be focused on DCS. Will it also by chance work in other sims after calibration. Like say for example FSX or P3D etc. Thanks for this great tool.

I'm thinking I'll see mine around Christmas time.

It works as a mouse, so if its mouse clickable it should work.

Hey Redtail,

Good to hear from you again, I am currently in a shipping pause for a firmware update. Carol will send an invoice as soon as we resume shipping, Should be soon.

Thanks,

Update: I just finished testing the new firmware with a new intuitive calibration procedure and user settings. My goal was to try and make it as intuitive as possible. I spent the last 4 days going through many iterations to get to a point that should be acceptable. The GUI will primarily be for key bindings and did not really help with calibration.

I am working on updating the instructions with the new firmware procedures now.

Highlights

Pre-Sets are gone

Simplified intuitive cursor limits.

Proximity and Button Zoom

Micro-Calibration

Remap FCU Buttons

Thanks,

Miles

Good to hear from you too sir. I am in the process of packing up my flightsim pit and gear to move in a few weeks. That means dismantling my NextLevel Racing flight simulator setup, so it will be another few weeks before I am really ready to commit some serious time getting back up to speed on things. I've probably totally forgotten how to startup the Hornet by now, lol.

I received the confirmation email. Looking forward to purchasing my PointCTRL as soon as I receive the invoice.

Thanks

~Redtail~

Lucky you, I am hoping for grand-kids, but I don't know if it will happen. But I really enjoy going to NYC to hang out with my daughter.

Update: Waiting on feedback from the testers on the update package and procedure to ensure it works on all systems. As soon as I get the green light from them I will email a zip file to update your HMS.

Thanks,

Miles

Yes it does work, but nowhere near as well as it does in DCS. Los has some time on other sims, and I have tried it on them all. The problem I find is their mouse implementation is horrible. It almost seems like their devs don't even fly their own sims with the clickable cockpits. But thats just my opinion, and I am partial to the DCS refined cursor implementation and clickable cockpits.

I know ED takes a lot of heat, and I honestly don't know why. Big picture, side by side, there's nothing that even comes close to what we have. To me, it seems ED is a company of enthusiast who are passionate about what they do, and we are all lucky for it. Well I should get off my soap box, I try not to get on.

Thanks for the question,

Miles

Did this as a PM but I thought right or wrong all should see what a great guy, a person, a man MilesD is. First part talking about grandkids.

It's the best days of your life watching the kids grow up. Its why we are here and do what we do. I am sure you will both be grandparents in the future only it's not. You are parents all over again with the same worries as before. ONLY wiser.

Also in the USA! it costs, Yes? Cost me my youngest is a timeout on her Masters. 1yr. Dr N.Smith cost me the equivalent of US $20K so far, but as a parent, I have done my job.

I want to reiterate "STOP" my hands type faster than my brain.

I wish to say again I really want to pay my way in life, as I always have. Also to give you, your due rights as a great developer of the awesome Complimentary VR hardware that is PointCTRL. (I put this about quite a lot under my pseudonym Rabid_Raven well given to me by my grandchildren G/Girls (12-13) G/sons (1-5-6)

In other words. I do not wish to offend you and I am very worried about doing this. But I never did what I did to get something for free. Please, Miles, you have rewarded me by moving me up the list and outside the US. I will order if ok with you the cable and the Pimax adapter.

Also the cost in full. I Hope I am not offending you, but it is the kind of person I am.

I have not slept because I felt so guilty, I was away for a week I came back to watch the recurring Q's and try and point them to your last page and the links.

Kind and sincere regards

Terence.

Tried to ring your home phone no luck said calls not allowed I would speak and thank you and explain in person far better from my time period but perhaps I am not there yet lols

Did I send you the wrong mount?. I will get another one out to you, and please don't worry about paying. Sending out a PointCTRL sample was the least I could do, its not a big deal, so please dont even give it another thought. You have already done enough as the "Keeper of the list" and don't feel you have to do any more. Now after a week with the grand-kids, get some rest my friend.

Hello every one! I am way back on the list but I would like to kindly inquire about compatibility to the Odyssey+. Are there any news about this HMD? Anyone already using it with the O+? Trying to wrap my head around the definitive ordering process and which accessories to order.

hi Iffoif,

I will have a mount for the Odessy+. I am making the new ones as they come up in the orders. You dont need to buy anything else, Just the Kit and sepcify wich mount you would like. I am posting when I am shipping in groups of 10. So when your number is up just follow the linked instructions. Just a DCS PM for verification and an email for PayPal invoice.

Thanks,

Miles

Update: I just finished and posted the twenty five pages of instructions with the edge calibration. It looks complicated but it not, I will have a video up soon to demo it.

Shipping will restart tomorrow .

Firmware Update

Important for current users: The new firmware will require a new calibration because it uses 5 targets to zero, and adds a different algorithm for the upper and lower half of the display. Don't worry about edge calibration until you become familiar with it, because it's only an enhancement and not required.

Mariner3302 had the great suggestion of adding the instructions and a quick reference to the knee-board. With the new menu system I think that would be great. I was working on adding a Bitchin Betty to assist, but I think the Knee board is a better idea.

Thanks Mariner,

Miles

Hey Miles. I’ve kind of lost track of things over the past few pages but did you come to a conclusion about what the best plan was regarding a Rift-S mount? I have a Rift currently but the upgrade to the S seems likely.

Did you figure out a way to use the current HMS in a way that wouldn’t occlude the top camera or do you need to come up with a new HMS design for mounting directly on the front face of the goggles?

My personal opinion is: A Video and/or PDF is good enough. A kneebord is better, but can be converted from a PDF (if it is designed to) by kneeboard builder. I can do this for you if you want. A Bitchin Betty is to much work. This effort is better spend on the rollout. :smilewink:
