Interesting pics and notes...

And the 2.5 version... Will this year be available??

Or is there much work to get there yet??

Last we heard from Chizh was the goal was this year, and to me its really starting to look pretty polished...

Great stuff, I love the improvements. One thing of note though, but it's most likely because its WIP, I can't seem to find the high-voltage transmission towers in the 2.2 screenshot. Will they still be included?

I agree it looks great. Are any of the cities going to be remodeled to resemble their real world appearance? It's not a big deal (actually a very small one)....just curious.

I noticed that too. But zoom in and you could see it is there. Just different lighting / gamma and mostly behind trees.

Thank you SithsPawn, ED and Matt for taking the time to share this with us. You are never wrong to do the right thing, even tough some will indeed complain. If you would find the cure for cancer, some would complain that the medicine taste bad !!!

Thank you again. I cannot wait to sit on the tarmac and look at the beautiful sunset... oh wait, this is a combat flight simulator... oh well, not my fault if you make it look so good.... still gonna watch the sunset!

You can see one or two on the left against the river if you zoom in a lot...

Transmission power lines, especially in foresty-areas can be very difficult to see from low altitude until you are literally over them... naturally depending on the atmospheric conditions and background color (which in this case hides the lines). Also the added dark forest hides most of the towers.

Are those new clouds already or is it just the new lighting making wonders? Looks different to me...

That was first thing that I noticed.... Really looks much better than the "blobs" on sky with a odd edges.

Hopefully they have nailed the cloud engine so it can generate something realistic great clouds:

I am glad most people understand this, I am often disappointed that Wags wont share something cool like this because he knows the Negative Nancy's will be out making the same old tired jokes...

We appreciate those that appreciate these sneak peeks, we know there are more of you guys than others, and I personally understand how tough the wait is, and how frustrating it can be, but I appreciate those that know the wait will be worth it in the end.

Well at Q4 2016 I got a bit heated up for this but then turned out it wouldn't really be needed, so at least for me I wasn't that hungry for it because of all the prep and things that I saw should first be put behind be before I build the excitement up, it's good to get all of this technical and fiddly stuff out of the way first.

This is a very "to-the-point" summarized list of things I did in the meantime, with ofcourse all of non-dcs stuff ommited:

  • I got a new monitor
  • got a new GPU
  • got the OS cleaned up nice and a lot of other chores done
  • figured more how DCS works, tested and tested some more
  • finally decided to get another go with Win10 on another HDD specifically to test DCS after planning for months, set it up as if it would be my primary PC, the "basics" are quite a bit steeper for me than an average user, took 3-4 days of hard work getting all the Win10 critical tweaks done, and then boom it worked like never before seen, so when 2.5 hits, hopefully still working as good as it's now, the stuttering thing is some an unlucky combination, this game can work real smooth.
  • deactivated and uninstalled all DCS from my Win7 environment.

These images are fine and probably quite important to keep people reminded, but that said I think there probably is value in not doing things too early, I wouldn't want much more than a screenshot, I rather not get all excited up at this points (still have 2 C# programs to finish, some minor PC maintenance, a bunch of files to sort and archive which now turned into a 3 year saga, goona take to the end of summer)

When I'm all done it's going to feel so good and then 2.5 will come out at the right time, it'll pan out perfect!

As for negativity, admittingly I was once negative probably when that alt-tab thing infuriated me, I apologize again, but probably a good idea that extra time is taken to make sure that doesn't happen with 2.5 on release, as far as me goes, I'd gladly compromise for as much as 2 weeks of delay if that is discovered internally on some machines right before it's released.

 Yes please we need better clouds. Hopefully clouds will be in the same position for all players on MP as well. Today they are in different position for each player :( But the terrain looks really good. :)

I have a worry that clouds would be bad for performance because they're heavy on draw calls, and DCS isn't using one of the milestone API's yet.

  • 3 weeks later...

Now that looks awesome but does this mean I'll have to wait a bit longer before poor ole Georgian Hammer with CA campaign can be fixed?

it should be comparable to NTTR when its all complete and optimized.

I am quite skeptical here.... Apart from Las Vegas, Nevada is a desert, with very few objects scattered far away from each other. The Caucasus rework seems to contain tons of trees and buildings, which are known to cause heavy performance drops in DCS

High jinks!

This could probably go into a wishllist but in 2.5 I would really like an update of the Sochi international airport as close as possible to the real one just like McCarran international airport in Nevada and possibly the whole city in the future :music_whistling:
