I'm back.. OMG

5 years ago I did cold starts and knew everything. A divorce later and no time to get into the sim.. I'm back and starting at ground zero (The OMG remark in my subject). I was hoping some brain memory would pop back all my knowledge but.. no.

Oh wells.. enjoying being back in the seat. Also.. got my Warthog HOTAS on Monday.. wow. Any regret I had spending the extra cash flew out the window when I hooked it up.

Any recruiting (what do you call it in this sim? clans/airwings/fighter groups) recruiting?

Get an Oculus Rift.

I do have one but I haven't tried it out in the game yet. Does it create much motion sickness? I'm pretty resilient to it but EVE: Valkyrie made me sweat.

I'll probably go up in a simple craft tomorrow and check it out.

It will take a little to get used to it, take your time to get your Flying VR legs, do short stints of 10 minutes. Once you get them it's all good, loops and all, it just can take time.;)

Just hit the VR preset in the graphics options menu before anything, otherwise you will have a real bad experience in VR (High settings VR lag), tweak as you go, many threads here with recommended settings.

There are other VR options under the VR tab, things like use mouse. If this is off you need to bind the mouse left click / right click to you hotas etc. This will enable you to click cockpit buttons by looking at them. I normally use the mouse tho.

Also set a VR recenter button on the hotas, there is a separate menu in DCS. This is also the menu to bind right and left mouse buttons if needed.

How good is it when you crash for the first time.....It's like, this is going to hurt a little....

Don't forget to map the Axis Command - Zoom View to the HOTAS Throttle Friction Control [JOY_SLIDER1]; make finding bad guys a lot easier.

Happy hunting!

Wont work in VR, so map a button for VR Center and VR Zoom toggle in UI Layer at bottom of controls menu.
