DCS WWII Map Discussion

Recommended Posts

The maps never was centred on "planesets" on the previously 6 years from DCS World release, and ED and 3rd parties not have plans change them. Example, RAZBAM has working on a Falklands / Malvinas map and no "pilot-able" module to match with them time era (they talk about the map expande from 82 conflict to today) and only a "far future" Pucara, similarly to Normandy (except the Spitfire MkXI). A Vietnam maps has not "match timeline" modules with proper era, the future Afganistan map has not centred only on "Soviet invasion", Syria has not only centred on 73 or actual civil war and the Caucasus map never was Russia-NATO air wars over there.

We continue use the modules as usual, the maps continue coming and they have adapted to the community to build missions with propel "licenses". To a "realistic" WW2 maps on 44/45, they need put a allied air superiority and a demoled day / night bomber campaign without opposition to a demarcated Luftwaffe short to pilots, fuel and air-planes.

well...if u would like it realistic, then in most mission we would need a couple of hundred allied bombers and a couple of hundred fighters escorting them....we all know, that this isnt going to happen with the current performance issues. i would say, thats out of EDs power. but to choose a map fitting the current plane set is not. they can create a map historically accurate for the planes we have right now...so thats two different things imo, and creating "realistic" scenarios, would then be in the hands of the mission designers, given that they have a historical accurate map to begin with....apples and oranges i think.

besides, creating a map not historical accurate for our planes is just as time intensive and work intensive as a map that is. so why not choose the latter one?

anyway, i opened this thread to get confirmation by some ED member, if the weekend news are accurate, and that there is indeed more than 1 ww2 map currently in development.

From the Q&A with Chizh

Q any russian regions planned (maps)

A Not right now, there are what we have now- caucasus and persian gulf, there will be a new WW2 map in europe and later some syrian stuff and probably afghanistan etc. no further details will be revealed right now because plans could change. Right now we are interested in regions that would be interesting to have “War” in with the planes we have. War with iran has kinda been in the news so we definitely plan something in that region. So in short, not right now (russian maps) but we’ll see

Now that's something interesting. As much as I would love for it to be a Pacific Theater map I higly doubt it since we don't have any planes for it yet, not to mention AI units in both air and ground. I also thought it might be a map on the Russian front but we are missing planes for that as well. North Africa could be possible or maybe Malta.

On a previously Wags Stream, show a module called "Straight of Dover"....

So a map of Southern England with the same level of detail as Normandy? I wonder if it will be linked with Normandy in some way so you can fly over both maps at the same time?

No, it wont be, the Normandy Map is a third party map, this new WWII map will be a EDSA map. No linked versions planned at this time.

The level of detail should be good or better than Normandy I would think. Seems every new map is a little better than the last.

As long as performance will be on par with PG, I think its going to be outstanding.

when i saw that straights of dover is planned, i was pretty much immediately thinking, the reason for this decision is because they actually could connect the two maps together...

otherwise at least with the current planeset, isnt that again a decision where many people will start arguing that plane x never happened to fly and fight there?

the map region itself has probably more potential than normandy imo, and if we could get the correct planes for it, that would be a blast.

i just hope that speedtrees will be used this time and that we finally see hedgerows which are so typical for this region.

I really hope it won't be a map around Normandy then, it would just be a shame to not be able to play on both at the same time, having to do two different missions for extended operations. A map in Germany or in the Netherlands would be great. Anyway, it's still great news, hope to see it come in 2019

Excellent news that there is a new WW2 map on the way!

We all have our favourite locations, but fundamentally, I don't mind where the new map is located. However, what is critically important is:

1. It is historically-suitable for the plane set and assets we have (or will get very soon), and,

2. There is more than one historically-correct airfield for each side (as opposed to Normandy, which only has one LW field, REF)

Well, I guess depending on the date of your choice LW has one airfield or all of them except South England, isn't it?

Yes, especially all the ALGs. The germans used them for years before they were built!

Haunebus, eh? But these were - or should I say - are stationed in Neuschwabenland, as every educated person knows. :smilewink:

Well so the time machine bell could make them use ALGs aerodromes without further notice. You people always nitpicky  :smilewink: .
