IMPORTANT: AV-8B COPY PROTECTION CHANGE!

And what happens if one loses internet connection at some point while the module wants to call home?

The way this feature works is as follows:

1. When you start DCS it will call home and verify the activation status of your mods.

2. It will save a copy of this activation status in your PC.

3. If you cannot connect, it will just check the list and go from there.

4. The list expires in 3 days.

5. On the fourth day it will try to connect again to renew the activation status list.

So if you are not flying multiplayer, you only need to connect to ED once every 4 days.

Only out for 1.5 open beta, got it. 2.1 is coming in a week or two, fair enough. Any info on when it will make it's way to stable 1.5?

I'm by no means grabbing my pitchfork on this, but the whole only released in 1.5 open beta to start seems to be info worthy of sharing prior to release day. If it was and I didn't see it then cool, I'll eat my words.

Today is the first time I've read it, and I saw quite a few people asking which version it would be released for without an answer.

Look it is not the end of the world, but it is disappointing to not have been able to be prepared by having Beta installed.

hmmmm exited out of fraps, waited a bit for the program to die, opened up DCS and all was back to normal. Perhaps the fluke is caused by some 3rd party programs doing something in the background IDK. Hopefully this helps you guys figure it out.

Hi all quick update first sorry for a bit of a rant yesterday issues appear to revolve around firewalls mine appears to have been blocking since it was updated and didnt tell me about changes in DCS as it had in the past, hope this helps others.

Didn't buy any module since a long time (the M2000 was one of the latest) and I was really considering to buy the Harrier but this new DRM system convinced me not to buy ....

Sorry guys, I know you are not responsible of that but it is not acceptable for me. Will see if this will move to the right direction according to the ongoing poll.

So in the future what's going to happen if you DON'T log in every 4 days? My sched is such that often times I don't log into DCS for weeks, even a month or more on end. What happens then?

Anything that simplifies the copy protection sounds great, this sounds like a great idea. I also hope that commonality between Steam purchased items and regular DCS modules returns - I bought the Mirage 2000 from Steam a while back, and it wouldn't install in my regular DCS due to the new copy protection back then. I hope this new system reverses that again, as I have a lot of credit in my Steam account, and have bought everything from DCS I could there, (I have the entire catalogue now), and for future releases, wouldn't mind using up that Steam credit on DCS modules. Either way, just so the copy protection adds more protection for DCS's hard work, yet simplifies it for customers, it's a win IMO.

The DRM will try to "phone home", and if it succeed, your activation will be renewed. You don't need to log in every 4 days, you just have to have internet connection when you do, if you last log in was more than 4 days ago.
