Sandman1330
PCWorld review is extremely promising! https://www.pcworld.com/article/3405567/ryzen-3000-review-amds-12-core-ryzen-9-3900x.html Toms Hardware is a bit more pessimistic https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ryzen-9-3900x-7-3700x-review,6214.html Also disheartened by availability. Looks like no one in Canada actually has these for sale on launch day (today). Thick8
I wish reviewers would benchmark DCS. Not sure if I will see any real benefit swapping out my 1700 for a 3700x. I was hoping the 3700x was going to clock higher because DCS is cycle hungry. I’m now torn between the 9700 @ 5 GHz and the 3700x @ 4.3 GHz. It’s not just about clock speed, but also instructions per clock, which have been significantly improved over second gen, and especially moreso over your first gen chip. It will be worthwhile, and you will be able to drop it into your existing motherboard. I went ahead and put the 3700x in my Newegg cart only to find that the PC3600 memory I spent hours researching and put in the cart an hour ago sold out. Frustrating. Sandman1330
Just got quoted by my local store that it will be A MONTH before they have 3800X or 3900X. No online retailers even list them today. So much for 7/7 launch (at least in Canada) Ryzen 7 5800X3D / Asus Crosshair VI Hero X370 / Corsair H110i / Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT / 32Gb G.Skill TridentZ 3200 / Samsung 980 Pro M.2 / Virpil Warbrd base + VFX and TM grips / Virpil CM3 Throttle / Saitek Pro Combat pedals / Reverb G2

Pilotasso
I'll race it against whatever you got mate. :) Also, Its a direct CPU replacement on my 2 year old motherboard. Try that in a year with a 9900K. Exactly! 1800x->3900x here I come! Was surprised how close the 3900x gets to oc 9900k with SMT turned off in Gamers Nexus benches.
Pilotasso
FPS numbers are meaningless for games with dated engines that go up in hundreds of FPS in single core anyway. hansangb
FPS numbers are meaningless for games with dated engines that go up in hundreds of FPS in single core anyway. Sadly not in VR. It's not bad, but it could be better. Also, folks should be clear. Is your RIG for DCS only? I mean lot of people use it video rendering, running VMs, and doing CAD/CAM/3D work. In those cases, I'm sure AMD shines just as well as Intel at a much more attractive price. My rig is used for two things. Watching YT Video while learning how to use SketchUp or Vectric CAD/CAM, playing DCS, and rendering YT videos. And DCS plays a prominent role in my decision making process. Everything else, I do on my laptop. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Sandman1330
Still no availability in Canada. Newegg had them for about 30mins and ran out of stock just as I was doing checkout. smallberries
Wait, if you drop the 3000 series into an original zen motherboard, don't you lose PCIe benefits as well as memory speed, if nothing else?

Sandman1330
Wait, if you drop the 3000 series into an original zen motherboard, don't you lose PCIe benefits as well as memory speed, if nothing else? You won’t get PCIe 4.0, which unless you are running a PCIe 4.0 SSD, won’t matter. There are no 4.0 graphics cards yet, and 3.0 isn’t even saturated. Memory speed I’m unsure, but as the Ryzen has the memory controller on die, I’m hoping the memory support will be improved.
