A question about resolution

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I just wonder what resolution I have in comparison to a 4K one. 4K is 3840x2160 = 8.294.400 Pixels. So far so good. I have 3 27"-displays with 2560x1440 each. So I´m running 2560x3x1440 = 11.059.200 pixel. How is this compared to 4K? I´m asking this because I have a bad fisheye effect on the outsideof the left and right display. So I wonder if this is really calculated like on a real 4k displays where I asume I do not have this fisheye effect. A friend brought me to this and he said mine is by far lower than 4K. I doubt this, but am not sure about it myself. I hope you got my point and can enlight me. Thanks.

Take care,

Xoxen

Not sure about the 4K vs 3 screens. To me that's more than 4K to run.

2560 x 3 = (7680) x 1440

So like you wrote, should be similar / comparable I guess.

The fish eye effect is just field of view (FOV) You can see the default fov in DCS when you hit Left Control Pause, twice. Once more to turn off.

You can set a new FOV with zoom and save it.

Pause trackir, set zoom, then hold Right Alt and hit Num pad 0.

This will save the new FOV. You can also set a new camera position too.

See me do that here.

You can see me exaggerate the fish eye by zooming way out to see more on my 2560 x 1440.

Something I found on YouTube

Calculate fov

http://carsfov.moritzlawitschka.de

Looks like around 70 fov when your sitting 500mm back from your setup.

Do you have the correct Aspect Ratio set in DCS Options?

I've had both setups and they can be similar in performance. I just use one 4k HDTV and a 1080 monitor for my gauges now.

Three landscaped monitors is not a good setup, as you found with the distortion. I ran a PLP monitor setup for my Ka-50 pit. Actually ran pretty good, but I'll never do more than a single DCS display again (plus a gauge monitor).

Isn't that a question of how to set it up?

The distortions come when you turn the three monitors into 7680x1440p in Windows and then set 1 monitor in DCS.

If, on the other hand, you only set 3 monitors in DCS, there shouldn't be any distortion.

Then only a more visible transition at the edges, which is smaller in the first variant.

@David Oc

Thanks for the links. Clicking on the first 2 ones showed me that I saw them already and followed them some time ago. I played around a lot with FOV and now found a good compromise between overview (beeing not too close to the HUD) and fisheye, which automatically is getting worse when you raise it. I will watch the videos again and see, if I can improve the fisheye effect.

@The_Nephilim

The aspect ratio is set automatically once you insert the resolution manually and hit enter. I will double check this.

@JG14_Smil

Thanks for the input. I also thought about having a large 4K TV instead of the 3 27".

@derneuemann

This is not the question. The question I had was if the fisheye effect reduces the amount of pixels which need to be calculated as in fact the screen is getting stretched on the outside instead of showing every pixel like in the center.

I also played around with a 3 monitor config but his is nothing for me. The way the outer monitors are moving is weird for me. Actually my FOV is 140 and I use the slider at the Warthog Throttle to zoom in if necessary.

Thanks for your input.
