Now that we have the Channel map will there be some German level bombers?

The asset pack is lacking in many regards, we can all agree on this, yet what is the most strange is that the Channel map is being released while there's only two flyable aircraft that fit the time period, that being the Spitfire and the P-47.

As far as non-flyable AI aircraft go we have the Ju-88 which is limited to torpedo bombing, something almost completely useless seeing as there is only one allied ship in the entire game that is sizable enough to be attacked with a torpedo.

We also have the B-17G, which is very nice and welcome indeed, as well as the A-20 which, although a strange choice, adds well to the experience.

The thing is, will we ever see some actual explosive bombs for the Ju-88? Or perhaps a He-111? As it stands the German side has no capability to bomb anything whatsoever, except with the 250 and 500 pound bombs strapped one-at-a-time to the bottom of the 109/190, which is totally impractical.

This limits almost all missions on the German side to defending against allied bombings by B-17's, when, given the time period, it should be the other way around.

Just a thought. :music_whistling:

Germany didn't really have the luxury of launching massive bomber formations in 1944-45 due to the Allies having total air superiority. The fighter bomber strikes you call impractical are actually what Germany did. I absolutely agree that the Ju-88 should get some bombs though. And once we get some earlier war planes added in then stuff like the He-111 will be needed as they were basically only used in the transport role after 1943. Also the A-20G was the most prolific twin engine ground attacker over Normandy along with the Mosquito, not a strange choice at all. :)

Operation Steinbock Jan - May 1944

But... it was a night terror bombing operation that suffered ~80% losses over the course of the operation. Since we don't have any real night fighter capability it would not be much more than a niche interest. Maybe we will get a Mosquito NF Mk XIII sometime after the FB Mk VI is out of EA and it will make sense.

Other way around? Boy, are you confused. First of all, two flyable aircraft? Aren't you forgetting the Mustang? But, never mind that. I'm interested in the statement that I quoted, above. You'd better do some reading. By 1944 to'45, defending Germany agaianst air attacks by the USAAF and RAF was pretty much all that the German fighter wings were doing! What, "other way around" are you talking (writing) about? Are you under the impression that at this point in the war over Europe, Allied fighters were defending England against air attacks?

I think this map has allot of potential for 44, Escorting the heavies to bomb Siracourt V1 complex for instance, intercepting v1 especially once they are launchable, which they are currently by an awesome mod team. I will admit i have focused on the jug and allied operations, need to deep dive into the German side of things but i imagine what many have said is its all Retreating defense in the strategic sense at this stage.

I do agree i was under the impression we would get some other german A/c for the asset pack and i imagine the ju88 will get the bomb version.

The OP may have his history wrong, but he makes a very valid point. DCS emphasizes its sand box nature. Most missions that people put together I believe are not historically accurate, or when was the last time the US launched F-18 operations against targets in Georgia from the Stennis? A German bomber is sorely needed for balanced WWII missions.

The Germans in 1944-45 didn't really have the luxury of making perfect to-spec Bf-190 K4s with high-quality materials and fuels, either, but we have THOSE in the game. A German attack bomber would be useful for gameplay, and for mission design (to include online scenarios).

Personally, I would most like to see an Me-410 before any other German aircraft. It fills the role of heavy fighter, night fighter, and ground attack, so it is imminently useful for mission design, and it has some (but not extreme) defensive turrets, making it challenging to attack.

The thing is, the "given time period" is never quite made clear. From the modules, we would say late war.

I'd like some early war, but any of the war will do, it's just missing the equality of the combat types as said above, attacking bomber formations from either side is wanted, even if our timings and the realism is a bit all over the place.

So +1 for any German bombers, the Me-410 above was a nice idea, something for the Mossie to play with, but im not that fussy, just an equal dose on both sides of bomber, fighter bomber, fighters so we can vary the play, would be awesome. It's all very well pretending those Ju-88 has bombs but you cannot task it with a target that isnt a ship.
