JTAC verbal lasing my Tgt but I think not..

Hey good folks. I'm having trouble with this issue concerning Patrol lasing my Tgt. He goes through all the correct 9 line spiel and read back and right up to the final "Cleared Hot" call but my GBU12 does not arc in it's fall line towards Tgt and misses completely by at least 100 -200 mtrs. I've replicated the mission in two different maps with exact settings and conds and still GBU12 missus by a long shot. I checked that all my weapon settings are correct and the Tgt desig is selected and my WP is directly over the Tgt. It's frustrating as I have used the exact same settings in the past and settings in regards to JTAC set up prior to previous DCS updates and had no trouble at all but now phhftt nada. If any one can replicate this and see if they are experiencing the same and report back I would be very grateful.

Caucuses or Nevada Map , no wind, elev 15000 - 18000 ft , BRU33 2 x GBU12 only , enemy 2 X MBTS 1 group.

I once read about not all JTAC units are able to do designating targets at night. Have you tried to set the mission time to day or change the type of JTAC unit?

Note, IIRC (1.5.6) the JTAC will cease lasing after 5 min (same time as smoke markers), so 'Laser ON' shouldn't called too soon.

According to your heading the target is between you and the JTAC. From that angle it's possible, that the LGB just can not see the reflection of the laser. Make sure your final attack heading is roughly from the JTAC towards the target.

Hey thanks for your input Tom, the mission starts at 18:00 so it's like dusk. The image I provided looks a bit darker than it actually is and I'll try changing the Patrol unit and doing a morning run and see if that works.

Thanks Ramsay, appreciate that. I will try and post a track file but that's not going to be easy since the allowed posting file size may not be enough to show the problem. And only a min or so elapses after being advised of Tgt being lased up until when I release my bomb.

Thank you for your input MasterZelgadis. I have tried from many different approaches and still I get the same result. I used to use this exact same set up in relation to alt, speed, bomb type, JTAC unit settings.. everything and I got perfect hits every time but that was at least about 6 or 7 updates ago. So this is why I would like someone to do a GBU12 run with Patrol on the ground lasing the target. Hey I have a friend here that can't even get JTAC to respond to them. I think there's legitimate problems concerning JTAC here within the ME in DCS and I hope it gets looked into soon. Thanks again man.

Thanks Harker, all my read back and replies to JTAC are perfect. "Laser On" is exactly what I say otherwise there is no reply. I used AGM65E in a previous run with the Patrol and got perfect hits every time using JTAC engagement with 9 line.

Thank you for your input mu110 but if this is the case then my MAV would not have had perfect hits using the same Patrol and settings.

Well, you are lucky still. I can't even get JTAC to use a laser. It always gives me Type3 in effect and asks for guns and not GBU.

GBU and lasing works fine with MIST script so it is not GBU issue, its this poor JTAC implementation.

Have you checked to make sure the elevation of the target WP is set to ground elevation. It hasn’t been mentioned so I thought it might be worth a try. Not relevant for AGM-65E but necessary for delivering GBU’s in CCRP. Hope it helps.

Recreating his mission as best as I could using the JTAC co-ordinates (PA182512) and his screen shots re: FAC position and FA-18C loadout.

My 1st GBU-12 was a miss but had started my run too soon 'Abort Abort', follow by accidentally checking out (instead of switching to weapon view) on the release pass i.e. the laser would have switched off early.

2nd and 3rd drops, from 18,000 ft and 4th from 10,000 ft - all hit as expected.

Hey BIGNEWY thanks mate. I been at this thing for most of today now with a number of different results and finally yes finally I got %100 hits with 4 out of 4 GBU12 hits on targets. And I've only tried one map Caucuses in Winter 18:00 clear sky no wind and was just about to try in Nevada and PG but decided to pop in here first. I found that the higher my elevation was say between 18 and 25000 the missus happened more often and the lower I was say around 12000 - 16000 my hit success rate improved and was actually became perfect. I have recorded footage of failed attempts and success hits and will post in my YT ch so you can have a look there perhaps. I will add the URL soon as I encode and upload. It was a little frustrating not knowing why as I kept thinking something in the ME wasn't set right or something in my Pit I was doing wrong and I had one good hit then kept narrowing it down until I think I found the alt was the problem but I'm still not totally sure. I will all the use same settings for the other two maps and Patrol unit and see what happens and I'm also wondering if the Winter conds made any difference but I don't think so and I'm not totally sold on this elevation thing either as GBU12 should have no worries from 25000 ( I remember my ole A-10C days ) but like I said it was missing it's mark in that map from those altitudes.

Problem solved and now I know why I was getting hits on tgt at lower alts as I completely forgot to set WP tgt alt to 0 thus it's min. I just noticed my WP 1 tgt was at like 16000 geez. Clutz me forgot all about it. Man oh man lol
