Academic videos vs reality

I know i don't have such a high end pc but i can play most of the time smoothly at 1080p.

In the videos that Wags posted, graphics, gauges, screens, fonts are smooth as butter. even at video game porn level. Mine always jaggy and shimmering.

Are your settings so different or is it a video editing tactics?

I don't know about Radeon cards, but if you have Nvidia, right click on your desktop and open the Nvidia control panel. Go to Manage 3D settings, select DCS, and tweak the settings. If you're having jagged edges, bump up the antialiasing. Rather unusually, DCS does not have an antialiasing setting in-game, so it is done through the control panel instead.

??? DCS has an antialiasing setting, 2x and 4x options are available. Heavy performance hit, but it's there.

@OP

They often use post process shaders, editing, and careful scene preparation. One popular post process utility you can use is ReShade, you can run any number of shaders that affect aliasing, color saturation, special effects, etc etc. The more you do, the bigger your performance hit.

He lists his specs here, Wags does, Not sure about GA, but I would image something similar.

Wags I believe does all his recording in live game play, and goes back and records his VO stuff after.

Would help to see what your system specs are to really have an idea what's going on with your current situation. The old saying goes that lower resolution like 1080p tends to lean heavily on CPU horsepower where 1440 or 4K really start to draw on GPU performance.

In my experience with DCS at 1080p 144hz (seeing as I've been through 3 different GPU's on the same CPU), my frame rates really jumped up going from a 1660ti to an RTX2060. Going from a 2060 to the 2070 Super didn't really bump my frames noticeably but it did smooth out the image a tad more (mind you I've been monkeying with the settings to get the best image/performance ratio). So as far as GPU goes at 1080, I'd say the 2060 felt like the real sweet spot for performance to $$$. Now, when it comes to CPU, my Ryzen 5 2600x really saw the most dramatic improvement when I went from 16gb of ram to 32gb. Stutters and image tearing are completely gone now.

All that being said, if you're clocking over 4ghz with a decent GPU and 32gb of ram, you should be able to maximize 1080p without an issue. Just remember, whatever your hardware setup is, the monitor is what's really going to translate all that performance and you definitely don't wanna bottleneck with a 60hz display.
