DCS: Huey Thread Ufficiale

V Radar Altimeter AN/APN-209

TM-1-1520-240-10_99_1.jpg

Description.

The radar altimeter set is a high resolution pulse radar that provides an indication of absolute clearance over all types of terrain. The set consists of the following: a panel mounted height indicator receiver transmitter (located on copilot instrument panel); a panel mounted remote height indicator (located on pilot instrument panel) and two flush mounted antennas on the underside of the helicopter. The controls and displays of the height indicator receiver-transmitter (IRT) and the remote height indicator (Rl) are identical (see fig). Absolute altitude is displayed by a pointer and a digital readout. The pointer operates against a fixed dial and indicates tens of feet between 0 to 200 feet, and hundreds of feet between 200 to 1500 feet.

Above 1500 feet the pointer is driven behind a mask. The digital display has a four digit readout. The readout is displayed in one foot increments up to 255 feet. At 256 feet the display is rounded up to 260 feet. Between 260 and 1500 feet the readout is displayed in tens of feet.

  • The LO SET control knob functions as the on-off switch and is the low altitude trip point adjustment. Clockwise rotation turns the set on. Continuing a clockwise rotation provides for the setting of the low altitude bug .
  • The HI SET control knob provides for the setting of the high altitude bug. Depressing the HI SET control knob places the altimeter set in the self-test mode. The IRT sends a simulated signal of 1000 feet to both indicators.

The indicators display the information via the pointer and digital readout. Whenever the indicated altitude drops below the low altitude bug setting the LO altitude waming lamp is activated. Whenever the indicated altitude goes above the high altitude bug setting, the HI altitude warning lamp is activated. When the LO SET control knob is turned to OFF, or during periods of unreliable operation, the OFF flag comes into view.

Reflex Sight XM60/XM60E1

Locking Lever [RShift + M]

A spring tension lever that fits into either keyway to lock mounting bracket in desired position.

Reticle Lamp Switch [No Keyboard Control yet]

A three-position toggle switch used to illuminate the reticle. Has two "on" positions and one "off" position.

Reticle Intensity (Control) [No Keyboard Control yet]

On Upper left side of the sight. Turning clockwise increase reticle illumination intensity; turning counterclockwise decrease intensity.

Elevation/Depression Knob w/ Scale [No Keyboard Control yet]

On left side of sight. Used to move reticle image vertically. Unless knob is depressed, a click is audible as each graduation passes index. Scale numbered in 5-mil increment show 360 mils excursion. White numbers indicate elevation; Red mumbers indicate depression.

Inclinometer Assembly

Indicate Aircraft turn and bank attitude.

Soon our implementation of EGT limits for UH-1H will go live in open beta. It is our initial implementation, and as some of you can understand it's not that easy to find documentation which explicitly says about when and how engine should degrade or even catch fire in those conditions. At the same time absence of such documentation is not enough for us to say that something should not happen. We have also comments from our SME contacts (pilots) which we considered. We are in the limitations of the simulator and we need to approximate things, therefore we say that this feature is subject to change and open for debate.

Mind you though that we have engine experts of our own and we are not going to change something just because majority wants it, but only if we receive elaborated and adequately justified explanation supported with documentation, which we will review and take time to analyse.

What you should expect:

If you are over EGT safe limits for a considerable amount of time (we will provide in-game test numbers below), it will start a cumulative degradation effect which will depend on the time and EGT temperature in which you will be flying since that cumulative degradation effect started. cumulative degradation effect will cause permanent engine performance degradation and percentage of that degradation will depend again on temperature and time.

If you drop to safe numbers before cumulative degradation effect started, you will save normal engine performance.

If you drop to safe numbers after cumulative degradation effect started, it will stop its accumulation and you will return to degraded engine performance, but accumulated cumulative degradation effect will not go anywhere. And next time you go above limits, it will start to grow again and it will bring more performance degradation.

After cumulative degradation effect reaches its limit and if you still operate engine above limits it will cause even more engine performance degradation and can cause engine fire.

Here is approximate numbers from our in-game tests (just a couple examples):

EGT temperature on gauge 645:

166 seconds (from start of over limits operation) before performance degradation (RPM will drop by ~200 in 5-10 sec);

209 seconds (from start of over limits operation) before your engine can catch fire

EGT temperature on gauge 680:

83-88 seconds (from start of over limits operation) before performance degradation (RPM will drop by ~200 in 3-6 sec);

90-95 seconds (from start of over limits operation) before your engine can catch fire

Here is numbers from manual we obtained from our SME:

400 to 610 ºC Continuous. Green Arc

610º to 625ºC Take off power. Maximum use 30 minutes. If using that temperature range more than 30 minutes it may damage the engine and maybe produce a fire.

625 to 675 Maximum 10 seconds (only for starting or acceleration) if more than 10 sec.

HOT START

675 to 760 Maximum 5 seconds (only for starting or acceleration) if more than 5 sec.

HOT START

760ºC Maximum. If exceeded is a HOT start or if in flight it may probably tell you have engine fire.

For normal flight conditions 625ºC is the maximum. Exceeding the limitations here may lead to engine damage, engine fire or even engine stop. With the Governor in Emergency the pilot may easily exceed the engine limits in N1 (engine structural damage beyond N1 101,5%) and EGT. Exceeding those limits could

damage the engine, produce a fire or get the engine stopped.

UH-1H Multi-Crew Functionality - currently in internal testing

This hugely anticipated feature is close to seeing the light of day. We have begun internal testing of multi-crew functionality for the Huey. The initial testing is progressing well, and it will allow two pilots to fly the Huey as a team. Pilots will be able to interact with each other’s panels, and it should be a beet fun addition to an already excellent module.

Next week we will share some new information about Modern Air Combat (MAC) and the Supercarrier module.

UH-1H Development Report

New engine modelling methods have been in progress during development of the Mi-24P and AH-64D modules. The new UH-1H engine model was in many ways a test bed for the methods we then used in the AH-64D engines model. We’ve been gathering feedback about DCS: UH-1H over the years and thanks to our forum users; Piston85, Ramsay and others, we have pinpointed changes we would work on during the new engine model development. Now we are finishing the deployment of the new engine model to UH-1H and are eager to let you try it. Please make sure to give us your feedback.

The new model represents fine tuning and here are some points about why we were working on it:

  • Some of the old engine model parameters did not match with their real counterpart, especially in transient regimes.
  • We wanted to improve temperature regimes compliance to match the real world counterpart, like EGT for example and other engine parameters changing, depending on altitude and outside temperature changes.
  • We wanted to model some of the mechanics better, for instance a new model has allowed us to expand states for connection of the free turbine and main rotor.
  • The new model allowed us to improve details of start-up and shutdown procedures, because of expanded modelling of compressors and free turbine.
  • The new model allows us to improve the details of start-up and shutdown procedures, because of the expanded modelling of the compressor and free turbine.

The image shows that we are now accurately modelling auto-rotation situation readings on the tachometer. The real aircraft dial is on the left and the DCS: UH-1H Huey dial on the right.

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

E quindi?

Battuta scontata.........ecco perchè avevamo performance totalmente sballate, continuavano a guardare strumenti diversi ahahahha!
