"structures" setting in Graphics.cfg

I've read plenty posts recommending that some fps gain be gained by modifying the "structures" setting in graphics.cfg, for example

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1488194&postcount=322

It does seem to work, I get about 2-5 fps boost

All the advice suggests to change the 2nd number, which represents view distance to start showing structures.

What does the 1st number represent? Density? In mine, it defaults (i think - not on my gaming rig right now) to 40

I can't find anywhere that describes the 1st number, and what range can be set. Is lower better than higher?

That Structures setting is for any structure that's not part of Districts, ie structures at airports, power lines poles, and I think bridges too.

The second number is max visibility distance, the first is actually not density exactly, but since I don't know exactly what is presents maybe best call it density or percentage... what it does is define distance visbility of things like trees on airports next to hangars (I think these objects are part of stationary objects on airbases) and stationary aircraft and vehicles. The higher the first number, the higher the distance at which these stationary objects can be seen.

Hope that explains it better.

If you want to get idea yourself, use low scenery, then set Structures to 10, 20000 then fly around bases, then increase Structures to say 60,2000 and you'll see the difference.

No longer active in DCS...

That you'll gain some FPS also this is not the only place to tweak..

Fly it like you stole it..
