27" Monitor: Doubt

Recommended Posts

Hi, i´m going to buy a 27" monitor.

I thought that in a 2560x1440 of resolution, i would see the gauges sharper than in a 1920x1080, the gauges would have same size but with more sharpness.

But i read that in DCS, the higher resolution in a same size of monitor, in this case 27", the gauges see more little?

Is this true?

Cheers

yes you do !

was one of my things to make the decision when I bought mine as I sometimes played on my Retina Mac and loved that sharpness.

Now, with 1440p I am more than happy in the Ka-50 with lots of fine gauges..and I am sitting at least 1.2m away from the screen with my eyes.

Also, 1440p is something you can fire up to 150+ fps...with 4k you merely get 60fps if lucky with 980ti...

1440p is the sweet spot between eye candy and expense for now I think.

in 2017 maybe 4k and NV1080 will make 4k the affordable standard.

1080p...no more, unless a tiny screen...like 12". 1440p on 27" is really nice and I dont see that much of a difference compared to Retina Display in DCS.

Gsync ...my advice !

Thanks for the info!

So in 27", 2560x1440 and 1920x1080, the size of the gauges are the same but more sharpness?

Or 1440p is more sharpness but also the size of the gauges are more little?

I didn´t catch at all

Cheers

agree with BitMaster, very happy with 27" 1440p,.....also if you can get one with g-sync that makes a big difference too....good luck....;-)

100% agree. I bought my Dell 27" 1440p display 4 years ago and the jump from 1080 24" was major. Only thing I miss now is G Sync and these fast refresh rates that simply weren't around when I bought this panel.

Please guys, i didn´t know yet this:

In a 27" monitor, 2560x1440 and 1920x1080, has the gauges the same size?

Or the 2560x1440 has the gauges more little?

Its sharper and easier to read.

Try this, downscale your current resolution from 1080 to 720p, they difference their would be like the difference from dropping from 1440p to 1080p.

Also, unless you have top of the line GPU (980ti or FuryX/390xs) your not going to need high refresh rates over 60, I don't get how you guys are slamming out 150 at 1440p, but you can only see 144 frames max anyway if you have a 144hz monitor. g sync/free sync helps

i don't think the cards this year are going to be a big jump, its more about smaller form factor this year i keep reading

Just a suggestion but at the moment I would only consider a monitor with G-SYNC or FreeSync. Regardless of the FPS, both G-Sync and FreeSync eliminate the screen tearing (which has substancial negative impact on the image quality).

Got any links? I have heard the opposite.

With regards to OPs question, yes, with the same size monitor, going from 1080p to 1440p the gauges will look smaller (and sharper) .

Agreed. The gain in vertical resolution made my experience also a lot better when I went to a 27" monitor. You see more of cockpits in once glance.

I want to see big gauges, if in a 27" 1440p the gauges are smaller than in a 1080p, i think i´ll go for the 27" 1080p

I think DCS is the only one, that do this, sadly

Back to square 1: !!

You dont seem to understand the nature of resolution.

You will see EXACTLY the same frame, same size gauges , same verything BUT it is not as coarse as with 1080p on 27" but instead you have cicra 1.7 million pixels more to make it look nicer !

The GAUGES are 100% same size between 27" 1080p and 1440p !!!!!!!!!!

The only look better on 1440p due to 2580x1440 pixels = 3.715.000 pixels

1080p due to 1080p 1920x1080 = 2.073.600 pixels

on the SAME size of screen to build the SAME image !

OK ??

btw..Philips just released a 43" 4k PC screen ( not a TV ! ) for around 699€, so even cheaper than the Asus ROG screens.

a lot bigger but: No Gsync and no fast responses...size rules out quality of motion

Hello,

Asus Rog Swift owner here, since migrating from an old BenQ 24" my DCS experience has been a lot better, i use to suffer a lot of screen-tearing with my 980ti due to the in-consistent frames and not wanting to use V-Sync.

My gameplay experience is a lot smoother and sharper. As for seeing gauges i find it a lot easier than before however i've never actually really taken notice of trying to look at something (muscle-memory for you :P).
