artmustel
I am learning the P-51D at a very basic level, trying to master landings and takeoffs. Now I just saw that the Spitfire went on sale today and I wanted to ask you people if it would be a good idea to purchase now the Spitfire for half the price, or if it is so similar to the P-51D that it wouldn't add anything new to my learning process. I just don't want to regret later if I miss the opportunity to get it now that it is on sale. Thanks in advance!

Charly_Owl
The Spitfire is much harder to takeoff and land properly (you'll hear the "rudder dance" being mentioned often here). I've flown the Spitfire in DCS many, many hours. It's one of my go-to planes whenever I feel like flying. The P-51 and the Spitfire are two of my favourite modules. If you want to know more about what you're buying with the Spit, I recommend you check these out: This way -> https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=135765 2) DCS WWII TUTORIALS DCS Spitfire LF Mk IX https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-uSpZROuEd3Y1dhWFhKSVpPbms Last updated: 30/12/2016 DCS P-51D Mustang https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-uSpZROuEd3b3NPTkltclpWcXc&authuser=0 Last updated: 30/12/2016 Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon

Art-J
Mind You, You'll go from the easiest DCS warbird to taxi, takeoff & land, to the hardest one (because of certain design features). Anatoli-Kagari9
Get it! You wont regret ! At the promotional price I wouldn't even think twice :-) It's an early release, still a long way to go before the final release - usually not less than 6 months - but it's already a very good module, in many ways, and the one I try to pick every time I start DCS World, unless I'm at a MP server and there are just too many already taken by other players. My next choice is always the p51d, followed by the 109. The 190, being probably one of the most perfect modules doesn't really feel that much useful for short times at a MP server. Maybe wait for the Normandy missions and use it as it was supposed to be used, at higher altitudes for escort or bomber interception ( ? ) The Spitfire is really a must, and the overall physics modelling will make you sweat while you'll trying to learn how to operate this beauty. artmustel
Got it and it is a beautiful wild horse! After several take off attempts that ended in acrobatic somersaults, I managed to take off - not very elegantly - twice. Well that is some start isn't it? Thank you all for your comments and advises! The spitfire kind of leans toward the German planes when it comes to ground handling, takeoffs, and landings. That's not to say that it's quite as bad, but it requires a certain level of skill that the P-51 doesn't really teach you. But hey.....it's on sale and you can always just hold off on really learning it for a while, but you'll have it in your pocket for a rainy day. You can also just start flights in it in the air to get the feel of it. All in all, it's a nice module. Worth the $$ as far as I am concerned. OnlyforDCS
Bought one today too! Can't wait to get home to practice, startup, take-offs and landings. The P51D took me a long while to sort of "get" too. However once I "got" it, it stayed with me. After more than a year away from DCS I managed to get it airborne and landed on the first attempt without any practice. (I did have to brush up on the startup though :D) I imagine the Spitfire will be no different, though probably a little more difficult to get the hang of. Anatoli-Kagari9
I am using a TS16000 and the TQ of an old broken X52 Pro system, and also a Saitek Combat RCS. I have programmed the trigger / gun key of the TS16000 for the brake function, and it works just great, although it would be nice to have some way of tuning it's rate of actuation on the brake system. The Spitfire is a charming module! Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
firmek
Thanks for your input, its hard to resist temptation...so I will purchase it. My suggestion would be to stick to one of the planes for a while. Since you've already clocked some hours with P-51 and as also it's an esier to handle, keep flying it and get some experience. Then when you'll get really bored with P-51 switch to the Spit. OnlyforDCS
Well. Managed to take off and land on my first attempt. It was a bit wobbly, especially on landing but I did pull it off*. :) *disclaimer: I did watch Matt's nice takeoff and landing introduction video first and followed his procedures.
