Out of what's available now, the P-51 followed by the Bf-109. I'm getting them all though, nothing not to like. I might be biased toward the allied planes though as I like their cockpits more than the Germans.

One plane I want to see eventually is the P-61. I'd sit in a hardened shelter online until the sun goes down, then takeoff and beat everything else in the sky. At least on paper.

Awaiting: DCS F-15C

Spit!!

I'm so glad everyone wants a Spitfire, maybe the kind folks at ED or a third-party developer will have mercy on our souls and give us one :)

We have a BF-109 and FW-190 (both excellent!), but only the P-51D to fly against. Another Allied aircraft would round things out a bit and make the sim more engaging. As a fan of the type, I'd have to say a Spitfire would be perfect :)

A P-47 would probably be good too, but since it's a sim, the more popular plane wins because that's the module everyone will buy ;) Everyone always loves the Spit because of it's elegant streamlined appearance, and unlike the P-51, the Spitfire was an excellent turning dogfighter, which is probably the most entertaining type to fly in a sim, although in real life it's not the be-all to end all (speed vs. altitude, range, armament options, maintenance requirements, fuel consumption and required fuel type, overall cost etc. etc. etc. come into play in real life).

So, I'd have to say Spit even though there are already three WW2 fighters in the sim that are very nicely done (although the 109 is still in Beta and appears to need quite a bit of refining).

Peace

 or tempest, but we have the old problem, ww2 grounds units :helpsmilie:

Because those are only the planes that were planned for release of DCS WW2. Not all of the planes because there isn't even enought spaces for a vote like that :P

We are all very excited to get our WW2 planes in DCS but it is probably going to take some time before we get them. So...

Out of all flyable planes in DCS WW2 that we are expected to get(or already have), what is the favourite of yours? Feel free to discuss and compare them.:pilotfly:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I already have my own, which is the P-51D Mustang.

I love the P-51 for it's looks, sounds and armament. I love .50 cal MGs as they are great for deflection shooting and I love the sparkles that they make on impact. The whining sound of the Pony going through turns is amazing. Besides, the bubble canopy cannopy is awesome (you have almost 360 field of view). I like all the flight characteristics of the plane. It feels powerful and untamed at the same time. I only envy the Fw190s roll rate and Spitfires sustained turn rate. :P

I wonder how it will compete with the 109K4?:book:

Great post.

You obviously have a good understanding of when it comes together. I just love that feeling when you finally get it. Something clicks with the aircraft and you are fused together as one.

It's a great feeling. Only possible because of DCS. The potential is amazing with campaigns and multiplayer possibilities.

I am hoping we can buy a bomber soon so we can have fleets of piloted aircraft to escort.

I too have the P51Mustang. It's the only WW2 aircraft purchased thus far. My eye is on the bf109 now. I'll own most of them eventually. P51 is indeed one of the finest of the WW2 birds, and will probably remain, one of the favorites, even as the other aircraft roll out in the future.

Manned bombers is what I'd like to see. I want to see all the elements of DCS brought together, to form the ultimate real time battle field.

Need a radial engine Focke Wulf.....

With the possible exception of the A-8, the radial engined fighters didn't have the performance of the D-9, which is why they went to all the trouble of developing it. Both A-8 and D-9 had over 2200HP however, giving them incredible acceleration. The 190 isn't a turning king but even if you dump most of your airspeed in an angles fight it still pulls away from corners like a racecar.

Now, the A-8 had *four* 20mm cannon! Kaboom! Of course this made the plane heavier and crippled the turning ability even more--and the Big Bad Wulf wasn't known for being a tight turner in the first place.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the radial-engine planes was their ability to absorb damage and keep flying, whereas all three current DCS WW2 fighters have watercooled engines--one hit anywhere in the cooling system, and you're going down soon. Aircooled radials were known to keep pulling through missions and return home even with entire cylinder heads shot off. They had total-loss (continuous consumption) oil systems and would continue to run and produce useful power with missing cylinders.

Anyway, since nobody else brought it up...

How about a Bf-109F-4?

This was probably the best 109... not the K-4 with it's greater weight and dirty aerodynamics from all the bubbles and blisters all over the airframe to make room for bigger guns. The 109F-4 (not the F-2) was lightweight, well-powered and had clean aerodynamics. It was a better pure dogfighter, although not armed well enough to be great for taking down large bombers.

109F-4: 2x 7.92mm cowl guns, 1x 20mm cannon, 1350 HP, ~2.9 tonnes max.

109K-4: 2x 13mm guns, 1x 30mm cannon, 1850-2000 HP, ~3.4 tonnes max.

The K-4 climbs better, but the cleaner and lighter F-4 will out-turn it in a dogfight. Most of the 109 artwork is done for the sim already so why not, it's only a few mods to the existing K-4 visual and flight model :)

I loose all of the immersion when flying WW II plane in modern theater so Normandy map (with units from the era) and Spitfire will be the selling point for me.

Although, I would love to fly F4U Corsair in Pacific theater doing carrier operations, fighting Zeros, attacking ground targets on the islands or participate in battles against ships.

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all
