Will you add ground targets soon? (In Korea war both sides did ground attacks, right?)

DCS Wishlist: 2K11 Krug SA-4 Ganef SAM, VR-TrackIR icons next to player names in score-chart

PvP: 100+ manual player-kills with Stingers on a well known dynamic campaign server - 100+ VTOL FARP landings & 125+ hours AV-8B, F-14 crew, royal dutch airforce F-16C - PvP campaigns since 2013

DCS server-admins: please adhere to a common sense gaming industry policy as most server admins throughout the industry do. (After all there's enough hostility on the internet already which really doesn't help anyone. Thanks.)

Dell Visor VR headset, Ryzen 5 5600 (6C/12T), RTX 2060 - basic DCS-community rule-of-thumb: Don't believe bad things that a PvP pilot claims about another PvP pilot without having analyzed the existing evidence

The heavy lifting of ground attacking was done by props for both sides, F9Fs did a lot of strikes too, but generally the Sabres and MiGs primary mission in theatre was A2A combat.

Now I'm not saying they NEVER carried out ground attacks, but that role was more commonly served by P-51, Sea Furies, Meteor, F9F, IL-10, Yak-9s etc

I'm assuming the MiG-15s used unguided rockets in korean war?

I have yet to read anything about MiGs engaging in ground attack at all during Korea, although Russian-built prop planes did. Remember that throughout the war, the primary mission of the MiG was as an Interceptor and a Fighter.

IIRC, MiGs were not even allowed to fly over enemy territory. They didn't want a MiG to be shot down & fall into U.S. hands for study, or to allow a Russian pilot to be captured. They were purely there to drive off the B-29s and enemy fighters.

---

Regardless, I have recently added some more ground targets for Red team in the server, for those that wish to try some dive-bombing and strafing in the MiG. It isn't strictly realistic for the MiGs to do so, but I don't want to begrudge MiG players who want to try some ground-attack just because it didn't happen in history. And someday hopefully we will get a Russian prop plane from the time period that will be able to utilize these objectives.

Going well! Been working on some new mission content, which I'm in the early stages of implementing. When in-game, check the Briefing for updated mission info. Kneeboards have Strike target info / recon photos. Still testing everything, so if you run into any bugs or problems, let me know.

no they certainly didnt want any pilots getting captured so they would strafe them and kill them

Hey guys,

I am still over on DCS 1.5.8 and enjoying it tremendously with very high frame rates (150 - 170 fps average) on some of my 'home brew' 8 vs 8 missions (Mig-15bis / F-86F). Using a 144hz/1ms monitor and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 graphics card with only 4GB on the card and 16GB RAM.

How are things going over on DCS 2.5.1?

[May 4th 2018 update: Have put together 12 F-86 jets vs 12 Mig 15 jets over Gudauta missions on the Mission Editor - getting mid 100 fps frame rates even with 24 aircraft in the sky. (Make sure to select an 'excellent' wingman AI!). Is the SeaQuark Multiplayer Server still active? I'll spend the money on whatever you guys think my pc upgrades should be regarding graphic cards etc. Have not received any inputs or help regarding this matter. Let me know if you guys are flying over on DCS 2.5.1. Thanks.]

Not sure what I will need to upgrade to.

Make sure you make a copy of DCS 1.5.8. It works tremendously well on a 4GB Nvidia graphics card in non multiplayer mode with a single Dell 27inch monitor.

Need help to figure out what the right upgrades would be. Hey, come back over to the DCS 1.5.8. I'm lonesome over here! All mulitplayer servers are gone so I make up a lot of Mission Editor Mig15 vs F86 missions.

Proposal to add 77th Sqn RAAF

Good morning SeaQuark,

I wanted to follow up on our concurrent sorties on Saturday past when you were flying in a flight of 39th pilots and I with flights of 401/450 Sqn to suggest that we should coordinate our actions and fly some missions together. We could fly sweeps based on a few simple pre-planned routes and timings to be coordinated via voice comms, we could operate together to mount more complex CAS missions with a larger protective screen and, I think, together we could dominate the airspace and provide the Mig 15 community with an enjoyable challenge. No.401/450 Sqns have been flying together as a group on Saturday nights at 2400 hrs Zulu for over eight years now and with the introduction of the Sabre, combined with the best server experience any of us have enjoyed to date (and that says a lot when you compare some of the great work done by ATAG and Team Fusion in CoD), our team have renewed enthusiasm and would love to fly with the 39th VFS.

Thanks for all that you are doing to bring the flight sim community together. We are a diverse lot, with many eras and a multitude of aircraft to chose from, so your efforts to draw together a group of like minded Sabre/Mig 15 enthusiasts is indeed worthy of praise and thanks. You have mine.

I’m very hopeful that you will favour our suggestions but I fully appreciate that you may not want to add additional load to your server and will gladly accept your decision. That being the case, we would still wish to join with you to fly together in the months to come.

All the best

All this leads to a couple of suggestions that I hope you will find interesting. First and foremost, as we saw this Saturday night when you were flying in a flight of 39th pilots and I with flights of 401/450 Sqn, we could in the weeks to come, coordinate our actions and fly common missions.

Hi Speed, this is all great to hear. Joint-squadron operations is exactly what I hoped for when creating this server. The 39th would be happy to coordinate missions with you. Just today we did a Strike mission, and we commented how useful it would be to have an extra flight performing CAP ahead of us.

Send me a private forum message, or say hello on the 39th squadron Discord channel: https://discord.gg/2GsgPjW

Let's find a time to talk shop & figure out best way to coordinate.

is the server only running on release?

because i dont see the server in open beta

Server is currently on Release version, 2.5.0, yes. We will likely stay on Release going forward, barring exceptional circumstances.

I will post a News bulletin here with updated server information shortly.

SERVER NEWS, 5/9/18

* For those that missed the notice, the server is running on DCS Release version 2.5.0.

* Some new features have gradually been added to the server over the past month. In-game Briefings have been updated accordingly. To recap:

STRIKE TARGETS

Both sides now have Strike Missions. As opposed to CAS or Armed Recon, Strike targets will be heavily defended, and require heavy ordnance and/or multiple flights working together to destroy. These will put your tactics & A2G skills to the test. Note that some targets, such as bunkers, can only be destroyed by bombs.

To confirm the status of a Strike target, tune to the appropriate frequency, then use your F10 'Other' Radio Menu:

BLUE: Call "BOSTON: Strike" on CH.2.

Bomb Damage Assesment (BDA) available during mission on CH. 15.

RTGH82O.jpg

RED: Call "PLAAF HQ" on W# 166.

BDA on same frequency.

KzAbJPg.jpg

If the Strike target is active, the controller will give you a Mission number. Look up the corresponding Target Briefs either in your Kneeboard (right-Shift K, scroll back), or in your coalition's Target Archive online:

BLUE Strike Target Archive:

RED Strike Target Archive:

Sample BLUE Target Brief:

wMC92Nc.jpg

As you can see, all the information you need to plan an effective Strike flight is available. Positions of targets and AAA are marked, and Target Altitude, Location from Bullseye, MGRS coordinates, and other details are provided. However, it's up to you to decide how best to approach & attack the target, and rally enough wingmen to get the job done.

Sample RED Target Brief:

663Mbdt.jpg

Note that Red team measurements are given in meters & kilometers rather than feet & nautical miles. All information is clearly discernible from the Target Brief, but English translations are available in the Target Archive, if desired.

Different targets may be tasked on different days. If the day's target has already been destroyed, ground control will advise when you call. There are currently only 2 possible Strike missions per team, but more will be added going forward.

ARCHER (S.A.C. ESCORT MISSIONS)

235J9Bu.jpg

In the same way that MiGs can call for Intercept missions, Sabres can now call for Escort missions. Controller ARCHER on CH. 14 will give you a Rendezvous point & altitude. Once on station, call ARCHER again to rendezvous with a massive bomber group. However, you need at least 3 fighters on station for an Escort mission, otherwise the bomber group will be diverted. Wing up with your friends!

Massed bomber formations will attempt to attack the primary Red airfield at Antung. Any MiGs at the airfield will receive scramble alerts, and be vectored by Intercept to the bombers. If enough bombers are destroyed, the attack will be thwarted.

VARIABLE WEATHER

NqeISZJ.jpg

Variable Weather is finally starting to be implemented. Weather conditions (clouds, wind, precipitation, temperature) will rotate daily. There are currently only a small number of weather variations, but more will be added over time.

As usual, all is work in progress. If you encounter any mission bugs, please message SeaQuark.

Dear SeaQuark,

I was recently trying to connect to your server that you have kindly made available also on the open-beta branch but with no success. I was wondering if you know about the problem. I have noticed that the counter that shows how long the server was running is frozen at 0.

I miss this great server, and shame that everyone is flying the Hornet nowadays.

Was having issues with the mission Rotate, have tried fixing it. Should be online now.

The server is open for business on the OpenBeta; haven't made a big announcement or anything yet as many features are still missing, the mission is still work in progress. But it's available for dogfighting & ground attack in the meantime. Should be up 24/7 from now on.

Please check the in-game Briefing (L ALT +B) for up to date information on mission. While the "Tower" is being rebuilt, please use SimpleRadio to announce all take-offs and landings.

Is the variable weather still available, or was it just a coincidence every time I joined the sun was shining?

Not yet. It's kind of the last "cherry on the top" feature after I have everything else back in place.

My DCS time is somewhat split between A) 39th squadron B) making videos C) working on server, but I'm just about done with a new video, so will have some time to do a lot of work on the server shortly.
