TGP: Huge performance cost in VR

Recommended Posts

Build: DCS 2.2

Terrain: NTTR

Plane: A-10C

Mission: Free Flight

Video card: GTX 1080

CPU: Xeon E5-1630 @3.70Ghz

RAM: 16 GB

90 FPS sustained on Oculus Rift with a GTX 1080.

After switching the TGP from STBY to A-G I've got a 30 FPS drop.

The simptom is fully reproductible!

I have not noticed a big drop but I fly the A10 infrequently these days. Obviously the card is pushing more pixels. Maybe you need to dial down a setting, I might be wrong but I don't think your Xeon will have enough grunt to max out your 1080 with 95+% usage. My old system would never get about about 70% usage when I was using a 3.6Ghz CPU Use the performance tab in taskmanager to see what components are running the most.

Welcome to the forums too :)

Yes, you're right, the whole thing is not fast enough.

Too bad, because I have 50% free on each core and 30% free on GPU.

I was pointing the TGP to Las Vegas neighbourhoods when entering the city.

Does changing 'resolution of cockpit displays' make any difference for you?

That is the only thing I can think of, since that adjusts the render and display resolution of the TGP / Mav screens.

Not sure if the Terrain Shadow is rendered in TGP too?

Visib Range might have an influence there too?

Knowing your settings would help though.

- Jack of many DCS modules, master of none.

- Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm using 1024 every frame.

I will retest with different hardware, the old configuration is not available right now.

And I think I need to upgrade anyway...

Same result for me i 2.5

I've found 30 fps lose with tgp and around 40-45 with the mav displayed. No other module has the issues, I get the same result in all mission and all maps.
