How To Create A Specular Cockpit Texture?

Devrim

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I've read The Specular Lighting Thread: For Skin Artists by Rudel, but didn't help I think.

What I'm trying to do is creating (or "convert"ing may be better word) a specular texture (see the image) of a normal texture. In Rudel's thread, he says about Saturation value via Photoshop. It didn't work.

Is there anyone who knows how to do it, its process or could you show me a source?

Really thanks a lot!

No. This is for Mig-29. There's a normal texture and its spec texture. I just want to re-create its spec texture from normal one.

That thread is pretty old and created during 1.1/1.2 days. But it does help some.

I've become better at it and here's what you need to do.

Drop the hue to 0. Then go into the channels. Select the green channel and invert it.

Afterwards, go into the Levels and adjust the Blue channel as necessary.

Well Rudel; Yes, I got it I guess, but there's something that I can't figure it out.

If you have time, I'll be very glad if you read here. :)

I'll slew the Hue slider to "0", but in Photoshop it's already at "0". The leftmost position is -255. This is a small issue I think.

On the other hand; I'm trying to catch same result with an already existed texutre. Let me explain with these:

This is normal texture. Please notice there're two devices in different colors!

attachment.php?attachmentid=147827

This is original specular texture.

attachment.php?attachmentid=147829

And this is what I get.

attachment.php?attachmentid=147828

I invert Green Channel and disable Blue Channel and this is the closest result I get.

There're two main problem.

1) I get different results from different colors. Yes that's normal but I can't get same specular result from the first texture. How should I do that? Should I do separate process for different colors to catch same specular result?

2) Let's say I've got the same result, this time, the red isn't same red as original texture. I think we'll never know what the original artist has done via Photoshop when creating the original specular texture, right?

Thank you. :(

The white and light grey colors is what's messing it up. Remember, the whiter it is, the more reflection. That's why it turns red after the inversion.

You'll need to find a way to rid of it.

I suggest adding a multiply or overlay layer of a dark color such as olive drab. Flatten it, then do the steps above.

...adding a multiply or overlay layer of a dark color...
Ah. That may be a solution of a part of my problem, I think. Will try.

Thanks a lot. I'll try my best. :)

Take care.

Open Texture,

Select All,

Copy,

Make a new PSD, Paste,

Image Menu, Adjustments, De-Saturate.

Paint Any Surfaces that have different colors to match.

Invert Green Channel (Control+I)

Yes, I was going to do something like that.

Now I'm sure I'm on the right track.

Thanks so much SkateZilla. :D

Hi...

Yes, me, again.

Now, I just want to equal those textures.

I cut a piece of texture as a layer.

Desaturated.

Inverted green channel.

Reduced Blue Channel (in Levels window) to equal red color.

But! Can't equal brightness. My result is too bright, and couldn't find a way to reduce it without mess with its color tone.

:\

Ok. Well; As a result, struggling with channels, levels or something is not enough to equal the SPEC texture you created and the SPEC texture ED created.

I think ED artist apply additional things on the SPEC texture that was created via known process. ED artist applies a dirt & scratch overlay on the SPEC and some other effects...

Ok. I give up...
