What is going wrong? FPS

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I have recently got back into DCS (Woo!!)

But I am having problems with my FPS. I had a GTX660 2GB which I thought must be the issue so I upgraded to a GTX 1070 8GB.

But I'm still having issues with my FPS (although not to the extent that I was)

My specs are:

AMD 6350 Six Core Processor (3.9Ghz)

8GB DDR3 RAM

GTX1070 8GB GPU

64 Bit Windows 10 (not sure if thats relevant).

Please give me some guidance, after shelling out on a new pretty expensive graphics card I though I'd be set to at least play on respectable settings but I am still having issues. Anyone got any advice?

Thank you in advance,

George:)

Hi GeorgeSloan,

Toms hardware question

Will the 1070 work well with this processor?

"GTX 970 is bottle necked so much a gtx 1070 will be even more highly bottle necked."

At the moment DCS is still also CPU dependent, this may change later.

I had a similar problem to you with an older i5 (old gtx 770) limiting my new 1070. So I built up a new pc and swapped the card out once built, then swapped again for the 1080ti and sold off my 1070.

Once 1070 was in the new pc I could see 20 to 30 more fps, could hold near 60 fps on medium settings at 1440p. What resolution are you trying to run? 1440p,1080p?

You can check this with msi afterburner to see where the bottleneck is, takes a little messing around to setup all the onscreen options.

Forward video 2 minutes, 1:50 ish

Or just open Windows Task manger and take a look at what's going on when running dcs. Hold Left Alt --> tab to Windows Task manger in game. Leave it open (Task manger), then launch DCS. Then tab to it etc.

You should see your CPU (one of them (cell) below maxed out) GPU not working hard 70% etc(Waiting for cpu).

LoL

You need HIGH-REV - BIG-BLOCK CPU

...which basically means, retire your rig. Anything else is not going to bring the desired outcome.

Possible candidates ( all DDR4 based ): Intel 9th series with overclocking to 5G or a AMD Ryzen 3000 series, best a 3700X imho, which will not need any overclocking.

So do you think my processor is bottlenecking my graphics card?

Yes, See my post one page back Post 3

I explain how you can check / see it for yourself.
