Want to install Persian Gulf Map on different hard drive.

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have DCS and Nevada already installed on my SSD.

However I can't fit the Persian Gulf on the SSD although I have 2 other SATA drives with enough space.

So 2 questions.

Can I install the PGM on one of my SATA drives and direct my main DCS game to look for it there and not on my SSD?

And will it perform ok being on the SATA drive as opposed to the SSD I use for all my other DCS stuff?

Thanks

You cant directly install a part of DCS on another drive, however, existing parts of DCS can be moved to another drive and linked using the Windows command: MKLINK /J

So, you could move Nevada, and then you will probably have enough space to install the PG map

It should work, but of course the performance wont be optimal .... in the end, the proper solution is to get a larger SSD.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600X - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia GTX1070ti - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar - Oculus Rift CV1

Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

You can just move the whole thing and not worry about symbolic link. It's just a matter of updating the shortcuts to point to a new drive.

I was trying to mantain as much of DCS as possible on the SSD drive .. rather than move the whole thing over to the regular HDD. This way I expect higher performance.

Yikes. I didn't realize the "target" was a magnetic HD. Yuck!

But SSD prices have plummeted these days.
