CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just picked up an AAU-3A Altimeter, Pressurized Compartment Integrally Lighted, 0-50,000 Feet, 1-7/8 Inch Dial

It completes the environment panel

Did you got the engines yet? By the look of it you're building a plane not a cockpit... :) Em I right? On the serious note now, looks great! Can't wait to see the project finished! Good luck!

Hi thanks guys getting it all hooked up is going to be one of the major expenses. I wish I had purchased a system from beta innovations wile it was still open having one system i think would be easier than mixing senverial.

The Pitot heat switck came in the panel i was luck to purchase several different panels at one time. if you look back in my thread you can fins switch lists for he left and right side and some of the switches on the main instrument panel. Here is the number i have for the switch.

PITOT HEAT NSN 5930-01-008-6930 PART # A3-1127

Hi guys i receive a question by PM here is how i put the F16 grip on to the A-10A stick

Picture of the F-16 grip base it has a 37 pin Amphenol connector with a specific key pattern.

IMGA0053.jpg

IMGA0052.jpg

IMGA0051.jpg

Pictures of the A-10 Stick with the old 17 pin Amphenol connector

The stick

IMGA0054.jpg

The compression nut

IMGA0055.jpg

Inside of thr top of the stick where the new 37 pin Amphenol connector will sit

IMGA0056.jpg

The old 17 pin Amphenol connector

IMGA0059.jpg

The new female 37 pin Amphenol connector with the 12 0'clock key left one and the other removed with a Dremal tool

IMGA0062.jpg

IMGA0061.jpg

The Connector made ready for gluing.

All the holes for the plugs where covered with painters tape metal areas were sprayed with a release agent i have for casting parts to prevent the grip being glued to the base.

IMGA0044.jpg

IMGA0045.jpg

The new connector glued in to the old connector's ring for mounting in the top of the stick I am pointing to where the glue was applied

We now have the correct connector for the grip and the correct mounting ring for the top of the stick.

I had to take care here in aligning the key one the connector with the mounting ring and teeth on the stick basically I pushed it all together lined it up prayed the release agent would work and that i had not put to much or to little glue in the ring and tightened it up for 5 minutes.

IMGA0063.jpg

IMGA0064.jpg

So now i mount the connector to the stick with three Allen screws that are covered but the ring you can see one of them form the inside here

IMGA0056.jpg

Tightening through the mounting ring hole to scure the ring here

IMGA0066.jpg

Now the connector is secure in the top of the stick

IMGA0065.jpg

Now i aline the new cuts i made for the teeth and screw the locking ring on the grip

IMGA0065.jpg

Once the ring is snug i tighten the Allen screws for the ring to secure it

IMGA0067.jpg

The unit is connected

IMGA0073.jpg

IMGA0072.jpg

IMGA0071.jpg

now I know you will ask it is 27.5 inches tall

Hi bell I am not sure what difference between a sim pit and simulator is for you? This all started out by finding some real parts for the a-10A during the lock on days.

I have just keep an eye out over the years and found some neat stuff.

I have all so missed some things, bought items for the A-10A that are now unusable for me an hopefully i can sell and not loose money.

I am not real sure when i deside to build a replica ( meaning an exact reproduction) unlike some that use the word then say well its a functional replica no an exact copy I don't count rivets LMAO any way Yes I do.

the stick is cool but the yellow paint is fouled up and well it just keeps going.

I will have to put the knob molding on hold for a wile do to working out of town for the next 6 weeks but i will try and drop in now and again

LOL you just reminded me of the first panel I ever bought a Chaff flair for the A-10A not used in the C payed way to much for it and it s light panel was back lite white . That was one of those purchases Hope fully I will be able to help some between the switch list here in my build thread and the knobs that i will be casting when i get back, I would like to cast some larger pices but we will see how the small stuff work out first thanks
