Default Rextexture issue - black bits

I'm having a crack at retexturing the M-2000C's cockpit, I was doing my thing with M2KC_8C.bmp.dds then saved it in the same format as original (.dds). Unfortunately in-game it looks like this!

I have a feeling it's something to do with the settings I'm using to save the .dds. I'm using Paint.net with the following

DXT5 (Interpolated Alpha)
Cluster fit (Slow/HQ) for compression type
Perceptual for error metric
Weight color by alpha set unticked
Generate MIP maps set unticked

Am I using incorrect settings or is it the program that's at fault?
