It pleases me to announce Korea! 1952: MiG Alley Missions, a series of multiplayer PvP events on the Korea! 1952 server.

These will all take place within the DCS Free For All month, so if you've ever wanted to fly the Sabre or MiG in some large scale multiplayer action now is your chance!

Things To Know:

  • The server will be taken offline from its regular 24/7 rotation 30 minutes before each event begins.

  • Use of SRS is encouraged.

  • These events will require the WW2 Assets Pack (which is currently free!), however our normal 24/7 mission rotation will remain without it.

  • Double check how the below times convert to your local time, be aware that many countries are currently in daylight savings time.

The Missions:

'Sabre Strike'

Sabres take to the air seeking to disable a well defended North Korea port facility, score is based on stocks of fuel and ammunition destroyed.

  • April 25: 22:00 UTC
  • April 26: 16:00 UTC

'Bombs Over MiG Alley'

USAF bombers strike deep into enemy territory, intent on releasing their payload on crucial targets behind the lines, score is based on how many bombers succesfully strike the target.

  • May 2: 22:00 UTC
  • May 3: 16:00 UTC

'Red Star Revenge'

Set to keep the Sabres at bay, the MiGs launch an all out attack on a forward UN airbase, score is based on aircraft and fuel stores destroyed.

  • May 9: 22:00 UTC
  • May 10: 16:00 UTC

Rules & Additional Info:

  • If you are shot down you may take off again, joining part way through is also allowed.

  • The above times are the time when the server will open, you may not take off until the scramble order is given after 15 minutes later, use this time to ensure all your hardware and settings are functioning.

  • More information on the specifics of these missions including timetables, specific mission rules and kneeboards will be posted in the Discord's news channel and in this thread a few days before they begin, please be sure to check these.

How To Take Part:

Anyone is welcome to take part, alone or in a group, on comms or off, but cooperation is highly reccomended for the best experience.

If you are interested in cooperating please join the assembly channel of your desired team in Discord at least 15 minutes before the mission begins.

Today's mission is a strike on a well defended North Korean port facility deep into communist held territory. The aim of this attack is to destroy the port's fuel storage facilities and starve the enemy of vital strategic resources. MiGs regularly fly patrols in this area and air combat over the objective or interception of the strike is to be expected.

Rules:

  • If you are shot down you may take off again, joining part way through is also allowed.
  • The below times are the time when the server will open, you may not take off until the scramble order is given after 15 minutes later, use this time to ensure all your hardware and settings are functioning.
  • Sabres may only destroy ground targets between the Scramble and RTB orders, any targets destroyed after the RTB order will not be count.

Timetables:

April 25

  • 21:45: Flight Briefing (In Discord)
  • 22:00: Server Opens
  • 22:15: Scramble Order
  • 23:00: RTB Order

April 26

  • 15:45: Flight Briefing (In Discord)
  • 16:00: Server Opens
  • 16:15: Scramble Order
  • 17:00: RTB Order

Ensure to convert these UTC times to your own local timezone, remember also that many countries are currently observing daylight savings time.

Mission Directions:

UN Forces

  • The target is the port of Novorossiysk in DK05 or 305 for 150 nautical miles from Gudata. This will be a long range strike, external fuel tanks are must.
  • The port's fuel bowsers are large cylindrical structures often bunched together in groups, aim for an untouched group to have the most effect.
  • Loadout is at pilot's discretion though ample air to ground ordnance is recommended.

Communist Forces

  • Your patrol area is over the port of Novorossiysk in DK05 or 265 for 95 nautical miles from Maykop.
  • Any strike will likely ingress from the southeast, along the coast. Proactive patrolling is reccomended.

Victory Conditions:

UN Forces must destroy 25 fuel bowsers or more within their time limit to win.

'Sabre Strike' Mission Results

April 25th:

In their valiant attack our brave Sabres were able to destroy only 6 of the communist force's fuel silos, meaning that the MiGs are our victors for today, well done!

I'll revise the goal number down a little for tomorrow's mission, 25 may have been a bit ambitious. I will also be implementing a simulated or real GCI position to enable the MiGs to better make their intercepts. Thank you to everyone who took part!

April 26th:

In their second attack of the week the Sabres were much more succesful, destroying 12 fuel silos in their strike, making them our victors for today.

This leaves both sides with one mission victory each, I hope to see many of you next weekend for our bomber escort mission!

'Red Star Revenge'

Set to keep the Sabres at bay, the MiGs launch an all out attack on a forward UN airbase, score is based on aircraft and fuel stores destroyed.

Today's mission sees a force of USAF bombers conduct a raid on the industrial district of a key city deep behind enemy lines. MiGs are on alert and interception is highly likely.

Rules:

  • If you are shot down you may take off again, joining part way through is also allowed.
  • The timeable below indicates when the server will open, you may not take off until the scramble order is given after 15 minutes later, use this time to ensure all your hardware and settings are functioning.
  • MiGs may only engage bombers after they have arrived over dry land, use the time before this to set up a strong ambush position.

Timetables:

May 2nd

  • 21:45: Flight Briefing (In Discord)
  • 22:00: Server Opens
  • 22:15: Scramble Order
  • 22:30: Bombers Arrive
  • 23:05: All Bombs Released

May 3rd

  • 15:45: Flight Briefing (In Discord)
  • 16:00: Server Opens
  • 16:15: Scramble Order
  • 16:30: Bombers Arrive
  • 17:05: All Bombs Released

Ensure to convert these UTC times to your own local timezone, remember also that many countries are currently observing daylight savings time.

Mission Directions:

UN Forces

  • The bomber force will proceed over K-13 towards Maykop on a bearing of 340 at 27,000ft and 160kts in two waves ten minutes apart.
  • After releasing their payload the bomber force will depart to the southeast.

Communist Forces

  • The bomber force will proceed over K-13 towards Maykop on a bearing of 340 at 8.2km and 300kph in two waves ten minutes apart.
  • Attacks from above or the front of the formations at high speed are reccomended to avoid defensive fire.

Victory Conditions:

Communist forces must prevent 13 or more of the 24 bombers from releasing their payloads to win. Bombers shot down after releasing their payload or having aborted their attack do not contribute any additional team score.

I don't understand. If a wounded bomber has aborted its attack without releasing its bombs why wouldn't that count? Seems like you are saying MiGs should not shoot down bombers who have aborted their attack.

Apologies, allow me to reword that section.

What it was meant to convey is that the the mission is scored purely on how many bombers manage to release their payload. MiGs are perfectly welcome to chase down wounded or fleeing bombers, I just wanted to make it clear that this will not add to their team's score.

'Bombs Over MiG Alley' Mission Results

May 2nd:

In a mass air battle the Sabres managed to just pull ahead, allowing 13 of their bombers to drop their payloads, making the UN forces our winners for today.

May 3rd:

Well organized MiGs took a heavy toll on the USAF bomber forces, allowing only 5 through to drop their bombs, making the Communists today's winners.

This leaves both sides with two victories each, thank you all for taking part!

Today's mission sees the Communist forces conduct an air rade on a forward UN airbase close to the front lines. Their aim is to destroy enough aircraft and support vehicles stationed at this airbase to render it inoperable. Sabre combat air patrols fly regular missions in this area, interception of this strike is to be expected.

Rules:

  • If you are shot down you may take off again, joining part way through is also allowed.
  • The above times are the time when the server will open, you may not take off until the scramble order is given after 15 minutes later, use this time to ensure all your hardware and settings are functioning.

Mission Directions:

UN Forces

  • Your patrol area is over the airfield of Sochi in EJ71 or 300 for 35 nautical miles from Gudata.
  • Any strike will likely ingress from the north. Proactive patrolling is recommended.

Communist Forces

  • The target is the airfield of Sochi in EJ71 or 180 for 75 nautical miles from Maykop. This will be a long range strike, external fuel tanks are recommended.
  • The airfield's parking area is on the north side of the east/west runway, aim for an untouched group to have the most effect.
  • Loadout is at pilot's discretion though ample air to ground ordnance is recommended.

Victory Conditions:

Communist Forces must destroy 8 or more Aicraft or Trucks within their time limit to win.

'Red Star Revenge' Mission Results

May 9th:

The Communist air raid inflicted a heavy toll on UN aircraft and support vehicles, destroying 7 out of the required 8, making today a very narrow victory for the UN forces.

May 10th:

A smaller skirmish today saw unexpected results, four valiant MiGs inflicted 9 of the required 8 losses making them today's victors! Though many were destroyed themselves, their bravery will long be remembered in the annals of Soviet aviation!

That once again leaves our sides with one victory each!

'MiG Alley Missions' Roundup

Thank you very much to everyone who took part in our six weekend missions over the past month, I will be making a roundup post tomorrow to summarize as well as officially announce the results above. As ever feel free to leave thoughts in the #event-feedback channel of our Discord.

Thank you all for making Korea! 1952 what it is, I couldn't ask for better pilots to share these virtual skies with!

Thanks for putting this together. It was a blast, even though it felt a bit like a suicide mission for the MiGs today since we were small numbers. I'm really surprised to hear that we won! At least two of us blew ourselves up unintentionally by dropping bombs too low.

Out of curiosity, how do you evaluate the score? Looking at a Tacview replay I can't see the targets so it's hard to tell who destroyed what or how many, except for the A2A kills.

Sometimes the boldest attack goes furthest, even if it's a little high on the casualties :smilewink:

I have a few people count up after the fact, checking this against replays and such sometimes, they've yet to have any discrepancy but I like to be sure.
