ASW 2.0 Support?

Johnston

Recommended Posts

"Depth information" means information about the actual position of each pixel in the 3D world.

...

This information is usually stored in a "depth buffer".

...

Some games or game engines already supply their depth buffer (Unreal/Unity) and will automatically benefit from ASW 2.0. Not sure if DCS does or doesn't at the moment.

Thank you for the detailed information. I hope it won't be too complicated for the devs to provide the depth buffer in a forthcoming update.

I updated to the 1.37 beta as well and noticed smoother operation as well. It was a pretty involved update, had 11 segments. I am looking forward to DCS accommodating ASW 2.0.

Thanks.

I saw a noticeable improvement in 1.37 also.

Is it easy to update to the beta?

Yes. Go into Settings (in the Oculus homepage), then Beta, and click on the button to say that you want to join the beta. Then go into notifications, and click on the update.

Probably 5 mins in total.

I switched to Oculus Beta to get the ASW 2.0 support and what a difference, single player stuttering has vanished and online has reduced massively. Also when looking forward and turning my head left to look at the left wing, when I got to about 55 degrees the screen would freeze, then rubber band to catch up with my turning, that is now not happening, just a fluid screen movement.

Placebo effect...

Not for me, I am running a 970 and the game for me is a lot smoother, maybe for the users with a newer gfx card there is no difference.

It may not be ASW 2.0, but the difference with 1.37 runtime is real.

Agree.

1.37 seems to provide a little better performance for me. I would note I also fly with ASW off.

maybe placebo... but from my butt metrics, I've also noticed it seemed better with beta 1.37. Like Don, I do run with ASW off. I'm using a GTX1080...

Also just updated to latest nVidia 425.31 drivers and the Oculus 1.37 and noted an increase in performance compared to the exact same flight before the updates. (although Oculus app now continually showing the Oculus Software Update under Pending, but downloaded, and only a pause or x??)

I found a nice little performance improvement in Rift software 1.37 in both my combat flight sims.

Sounds like the latest driver is a go. I'm curious, did you notice a performance improvement with the driver itself?

same here, I'm kinda deciding on going with the 425.31...

Any Oculus Rift user confirm improvement?

I also updated NVidia drivers and DCS Wed update came out but with all three in place I now get a locked 45 fps in PG map on multiplayer where as before I had low to mid twenties at best and some times high teens.

Placebo working for me!!!

I'm not seeing any improvement at all, in fact it may even be worse as ASW was not that noticeable unless flying prop planes, would have to do some back & forth testing to be sure though.

Regarding ASW 2.0 you do not need to update to 1.37 as its enabled in 1.36.

I think 1.37 has a bug fix that was causing performance issues for some people.

1.37 and last nvidia driver did not show noticeable improvements for me.

I’m waiting for the new terrain engine I guess :)
