frixon28
Hello everyone while doing research on a local Air National Guard Unit's History here in New England I learned that they did deploy all deploy to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. They deployed as the 387th AEG. The deployed A-10's were from the 131st FS of Massachusetts ANG and 118 FS of the Connecticut ANG, both units have lost their A-10's  Quite some interesting story's about the infrastructure aspects and also about the first integration of the Litening AT TGP on A-10A+ models. I found this as a New...Englander(?) very interesting, but I'm sure everyone with any interest in military aviation will also like it! Also just interesting about A-10 operations! http://warthogdeployments.blogspot.com/2008/10/10-units-of-operation-iraqi-freedom-oif_31.html?m=1 http://www.sponauer.com/a-10litening/index.html Some important excerpts and pictures of aircraft/patches are below... "The 131st FS and the 118th FS were selected in fall 2002 to be the first ever to modify A-10s for employing the Litening AT targeting pod. This advanced pod allowed the drop of 500-pound GBU-12 Paveway II laser guided bombs without external guidance" The website has many pictures that are blocked by Photo Bucket that are sadly unavailable Edited November 9, 2017 by frixon28
