Machalot
I loaded a brand new jet parked at Kutaisi. The magnetic compass read ~150. I checked the F10 map and 150 was about 30 deg off the nose of my parked aircraft. The nose was pointed south-southeast. INS seemed to align correctly to 188. These screenshots were all taken during initial power up sequence. Captured magnetic heading prior to power up, then allowed the INS to align, then compared against F10 map. This bug also seems to affect the INS alignment. Later on I was flying south out of Sochi (181) and my magnetic compass showed N, nearly 180 deg off from my actual heading. I turned of the INS and did an In-Flight Align using 181 as the input heading. The INS showed 042 deg after the In-Flight Align completed, and the HUD showed 107. This is really screwy. This is with the latest open beta. Machalot
Also affects the F-86. True heading of the aircraft at startup is about 240. Directional gyro says 240 prior to power up. Magnetic compass says 210. After power up, directional gyro snaps over to 210. The error between the aircraft's navigational equipment and true heading is about 30 deg. Here's the track. Machalot
F-16 magnetic heading not showing in DED only true heading is reported. thanks Hi BIGNEWY, I don't understand your response. The issue I'm having is that the magnetic compass heading is wrong by a huge amount compared to the true aircraft heading reported by the F10 map. It is typically off by 30 deg error but I have seen much larger. This affects the F-86 as well as the Viper. Please look at the screenshots and the short trk file. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted September 2, 2020 ED Team Share Posted September 2, 2020 Hi thanks for the support ticket, yes I mixed up your issue with another issue with the f-16 specifically. I have been unable to reproduce your issue so far, I will have another dev check thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Solution Machalot Posted September 5, 2020 Author Solution Share Posted September 5, 2020 I seem to have resolved this issue by deleting all the contents of Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Data\MagVar\TabularData. It contains a bunch of .bin files that were apparently corrupted and causing bad compass readings. No idea how that happened though. "Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5.
