Interesting. How do you know there was a heat problem? And why would the heat problem mean changing the lenses, or are you saying changing lenses was a convenient excuse for a more serious problem?

MRTV said so on one of his live streams.

Personally I think more power give good vibrant colours, lens with less power maybe not so or that could be me Just me being a pessimist.

How would changing the lenses remove a heat problem?

Why have they changed the lenses at the last minute when it was so good ?

Perhaps I am just talking out of my **** lol but does make you wonder why the change.

I admit I know nothing on how a VR heads sets are made.

Okay, it might be a translation issue. Colour vibrancy and brightness might well be a function of screen power and therefore heat build up. But the lenses - distinct from the screens - would not obviously have any effect on heat build up in the headset in my opinion.

Who knows why the lens issue is that HP is seeking to refine. It could be anything: serial manufacturing defects, sweet spot clarity, sweet spot extent. Complex things lenses particularly when people's faces and eye position vary to some reasonable extent.

I am happy that they are delaying slightly in order to get things refined and optimised. And the German reseller's communication concerning the delay was good / clear.

Ah yes sorry I am an idiot screen different to lens ,I said I know nothing about VR head sets

Planning on getting the HP G2 sometime next year. Firstly I need a gpu upgrade. I know independent reviews are not out yet but it temptatively looks like the Rtx 3070 would be a good budget gpu to drive the G2 headset.

Correct, but I think if you can stretch that the 3080 is the sweet spot of the range. It will be a better fit for 4K resolution of the G2.

It is an extra £200 and the upgrade for that is very, very significant for 4K:

higher specification 102-chip with more CUDA cores,

6X memory rather than GDDR6 with significantly wider memory bus.

And and extra 2GB capacity which is great for 4K VR.

Of course, go with what you can afford and enjoy.

I agree with you. The rtx 3080 really is the best middle ground for VR like reverb G2. I might just get the rtx3080 and do a change of motherboard, psu and cpu along the line.

Yeah I pre ordered G2 also but can't use it before replacing my GPU. Damn, now I don't know should I wait AMD or buy 3080FE :D Well, 12 days left to decide..

Don't wait. There will be a shortage. And if you don't want to keep it in light of other options you would be able to flip it and get your money back.

Don't underestimate peoples' desperation to play Cyberpunk immediately in all its ray tracing goodness.

The only thing I worry about the 3080 is the vram. It may be good for a year but I think after that it may not be enough for a flagship. Right out of the gate Ms flight 2020 eats vram. We will see. I will try and fit a 3090 in my case because I don't want to upgrade for the next 3 years again.

I've got the same concern regarding the 3080, but considering that I am currently rocking a RTX 2080 Ti with 11GB GDDR6 and using a 5K monitor without hitting bottlenecks in DCS (no idea about MSFS) then I think I will be alright in 4K with the upcoming G2.

Conclusion: 10GB probably sufficient, at least for me.

Any kind souls out there with an HP Reverb generation 1 and and RTX 2080 Ti able to comment?

Well, i have a 2080 Ti and a G1 Reverb, and all I will say is that I am GPU bound 90% of the time in DCS. There are odd situations where the CPU is the issue, but they are rare.

Also, I find I am using 10+Gb of VRAM in DCS. The 10gb in the 3080 I think is a showstopper for me as I have said before. As soon as i can get my hands on a 3090, I will!

Nothing there that we didn't already know. UK distributor emailed its pre-order customers a week or so ago on this October date from HP.

Has everyone in the UK had this email?

I’ve not had anything from SystemActive since I placed my order I’d like to make sure I don’t miss any important emails.

Thanks. I did read on another thread that DCS takes whatever GPU RAM is available less 1GB... so it kind of expands to fit whatever is available. But this is certainly something I really want to understand before laying out £1400 (+£750 from the 3080) on a new card and another £150 on a water block.

Yes that was me; and it was an observation... the question really is what’s the perf impact of 11gb over 8gb or 10 etc... how many times does that force a load from disk, etc... so maybe the improved bandwidth helps or not we likely won’t know til it gets under load in dcs

Will the improved VRAM speed not help?

Increase RAM speed and increase memory bandwidth will both help. But running out of memory will regardless introduce a massive bottleneck. IF - I stress, if - you run out of VRAM.

I imagine you can tweak settings to manage VRAM usage, but you don't want to resort to that if you don't have to, do you?

I just hope the 3090 will fit in my Entho evolve mid size case. It looks like it should but it's so darn thick too.

well you could always measure the space you have and compare it the specs... https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/

Yep I can fit a 16 inch long card in this case. Just concerned about the sides since it's a 3 slot card. Probably being optimistic here because I may not even be able to grab one from Nvidia.
