flyingscotsman Posted April 10, 2018 Share Posted April 10, 2018 I won a draw to get a flight when at RAF Brize Norton, For various reasons I ended up in the left hand seat and was able to convince the instructor that I could follow the basic insturments. Then had 30 minutes of unforgettable flying and following rigidly what I was being instructed to do by the instructor pilot, got so immersed with watching the instruments while all sorts of bells horns etc went off during descent, while he calmly kept saying, ignore that, I've got that etc, that when he said as previously agreed to hand control back, Oh and you'd better look up, There was RAF Fairford runway, and bump, we were down for a roller and back up again. Absolutly brilliant fastest half hour of my life and the best. You know it doesn't fly at Mach 2.0 all the time right :P (Concorde has a suprisingly low stall speed, around 200mph from what I can find) Edit: I've been googling the found this: https://www.heritageconcorde.com/the-wing It's fascinating. Years ago was flying into LaGuardia, on vectors, heading along the Hudson river before turning for the Expressway Visual approach to 31. Concorde was rolling onto final below us for 13R at JFK, We were doing 250 knots, they were doing whatever they do on final, somewhere below 200 kts...
