KOREA! 1952 (MiG vs Sabre PvP Server)

Yeah, great stuff. Thanks for the acknowledgment

Had a great first flight vs people last night, I think it is even going to be on youtube, by the guy who I fought.

BTW, you didn't say, but I'd guess we have to trust the text, not the voice ?

Also on landing ATC called out 592, hold position, but no one was playing in that slot

Anyway we can get tacview to run? I had a fun fight with a mig today and I would have liked to have reviewed the flight, but was unable. I use it to learn from my mistakes and sometimes just want to see who I was fighting. I tried to replay the track to get it, but that didn't work.

Otherwise really enjoying the server. Much appreciated!

I know it may seem silly to some, but my approach to the server is simple: if they didn't have it during the war, then it doesn't go on the server. This guy didn't have Tacview during his debriefings. Neither did this guy.

We Sim pilots already have the rather enormous advantage of being able to return from the dead. A God's-eye-view of our last engagement does not strike me as necessary to becoming better pilots-- it may even be a distraction. As the real pilots did, ideally you should learn to recognize by instinct what it looks like from your cockpit when a dogfight is going wrong. The limits of that perspective is all part of the challenge.

I totally understand others have different opinions about this. Thank you for flying on the server! I am open to any & all suggestions that will increase realism & historical accuracy.

I tried out the server last night. Unfortunately I was the only one on but it was late PST. After I took off I couldn't use the communications menu at all. Is there something I am doing wrong? I'd press \ and nothing would happen. It worked fine on the ground when i ask to taxi to take off etc.

"Communications menu" ! you said it yourself.

This is not the radio menu, it only works as Interphone when on the ground. This is not a Flaming Cliffs aircraft. Check what is your Microphone button in the MiG/Sabre settings and use that. It is also going ot be used for Simple Radio, which you should use ;)

Easy Communication is turned Off on the server. When in the air, you press your aircraft's Mic button to bring up the menu. For me it's RALT+ \, but I don't remember if that's the default for all aircraft.

First off, what an awesome server! I've flown twice on it; once in my F-86F, and the other time in my P-51. I have to assume that it isn't necessary to request startup, and taxi instructions using the F10 tower selection, because I've not received a response on either F5/F1/F3, or F10 Tower. Now I just startup and roll out of the hanger. I actually have P-51 radio buttons set up on my Warthog throttle mic hat switch with the PTT, and can dial in the different presets on my F-86F radio. I really liked being directed to enemy infantry by Boston, and found the infantry without much effort.

Ok, I guess I'll ask the questions that many have had, but haven't asked. I've had Discord on my computer for about a year, and use it to talk with friends in other games. That said, I have no clue about how to connect to the Korea 1952 server Discord. I also downloaded SimpleRadio Standalone, but again have no idea how to set it up to use it in DCS with the server.

Would it be possible for one of you more experienced players to post a brief tutorial in this thread on how to setup the two addons so we don't have to struggle trying to research how to do the setups? A tutorial would be greatly appreciated.

I really enjoyed the immersion of flying recon in the P-51, but the best recon in the world is useless if you can't report in a timely manner.

I am sure if you search for "How to connect to a Discord server?" and "How to set-up DCS Simple Radio ?" in google and you will find what you need.

For SRS make sure to test you input/outputs (mic gain should be negative). Setup radio controls and if a server has SRS it should connect automatically, you can still save server addresses if you wish

Hey Balzarog, I'm always happy to help new users get up & running with SRS. And if there's some snag I can't handle, I can pass you off to the SimpleRadio troubleshooting channel.

As for Discord, I'm a little confused-- if you are running Discord already, then isn't it already working? Just click on the Discord invite link at the very top of this forum post. It is listed in the server Briefing as well. You should then be able to select KOREA!1952 from your available Discord channels.

Once there, I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have on Voice or Text chat.

Thanks to a helpful tip from Ciribob, the creator of SimpleRadio, the F-51 flights are now fully able to communicate with the F-86s on SRS.

xgxQtiY.jpg

A = Tower

B = Boston

C = Colt Flight (F-51s)

D = Guard

The Tower, Boston, Guard, and Colt channels are all shared between F-51s and F-86s. This will be very useful for general team coordination, traffic calls, Recon flights, or requesting escort / assistance from the jets. Briefing has been updated:

yGRBRgj.jpg

Recommended procedure: if you need to contact the 86s from a prop plane, switch to channel D [Guard] for a brief message explaining your situation, and requesting available F-86 flight to switch to COLT's Flight Channel (CH. C for Mustangs, CH. 10 for Sabres). Remember, Guard channel broadcasts go out to the entire team, so it should only be used for emergencies, or to get another flight's attention-- the rest of the discussion should then proceed on your own Flight Channel.

Thank you SeaQuark! As I'm sure you know, I made my suggestions before I met up with you on the server yesterday. The part about the Discord setup that confused me and prevented me from connecting to the server was that the Discord invite connection window was asking for the identifier in the format of "#name." I finally figured out that the server's" indentifier is the letters at the end is the URL (CasE SENsitive).

I'm very grateful for the mission we flew together and the guidance you gave me on using the comms and communicating during the mission. I'm very glad that channels "C" and "D" are now available in the -51.

Give us external views (at least for yourself or your own allies) like on openconflict. The planes look pretty good.

If you like externals you can use the replay to do it. Here is a perfect guide to it

Also the plane looks the same on SP so you can make some shots.

I wouldn't be surprised if SQ removes the GPS f-10 map option. I would welcome it. But I understand why he keeps it on. But externals have no place in a realistic combat scenario like this. OC is another type of server, is for training mostly, a different story.

+1 for removing own icon from f10 map. Navigation is a huge part of a good airmanship, especially back in 50s.

woah, woah, woah.... maybe that is a bit too much ?

Navigation to bulls is easy enough just follow bearing approx 150-160 from base until you reach the mountains. Returning is also easy just dial 288 on the ark, so I see no real benefit of f10 map icon. Using the mountains, the sea and 288 on ark gives you good enough information where are you. There are also plenty of other beacons one can use for cross reference his position :)

Според мен навигацията с арк е интересна :)

For the record, at some point down the line, I would like very much to remove the F10 icon.

I expect to try turning it off on a trial basis, sometime in the near future. In the meantime, I recommend everyone get in the habit of tuning your NDBs before take-off, and practice dead-reckoning when you can.

I do use the radio navigation all the time on the way back to base. The F10 icon really help about intercepts, but I guess using the kneepad map marks and visuals can be used as well
