Pello86
Hi Guys, I have been flying a few CAS missions with the F18 and I am wondering what’s the best method of finding targets and how do you identify what’s an enemy target and whats a friendly. I find myself getting to the CAS waypoint and I spend most of my time looking for targets. Taz1004
Labels. If not, study the mission planner... if mission planner doesn't let you see enemy units, study it from mission editor. Real mission should give you intel on whereabouts of enemy units so I wouldn't consider this cheating. View it from satellite view and remember the cities and roads. Also get close in the enemy units in mission planner and see if they're behind trees or building from where you'll be approaching. If so, change the waypoints to alter your approach. Some will say it is realistic to miss a few ground units. You can't kill them all. I totally agree with that. Except in DCS, if you miss single one of your objective, for example a BMP, it will destroy your friendly armor (apparently friendly units don't know how to fight) and you have to report for court martial. I've been in hundreds of court martial already. Pello86
Thanks for your reply Taz. I don’t really want to use labels, so it looks like I’ll just have to study the mission planner a little bit more Rig: |(CPU)Intel® Core™ i7 Eight Core Processor i7-9700K (3.6GHz) 12MB Cache|ASUS® ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING|32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 16GB)|11GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2080TI|2TB SEAGATE IRONWOLF PRO 3.5", 7200 RPM 128MB CACHE|1TB INTEL® 660p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (upto 1800MB/sR | 1800MB/sW)|CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET|Processor Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler w/ PCS Ultra Quiet Fans Thermal Paste||RIFT S VR| TM HOTAS A10 Warthog :joystick:
Burt
When I started I really had to use the labels but I used the dot labels. It got my eyes trained. I just shut them off 2 weeks ago. But yeah use the dots until you can spot them better. Pello86
Hi guys I tried with dots and found it a lot easier to find targets. Is there an option to customise labels ? Basically I just want enemy ground units labelled with a dot. I am happy the way my air to air combat is going. Taz1004
Try this. It uses very small dot and will fade in and out as you get closer. You can edit the distance setting. This goes into /DCS/Config/View/Labels.lua Edited August 7, 2020 by Taz1004 Better Smoke - Better Trees Caucasus - Better Trees Syria - Better Trees Mariana - Clear Canopy Glass
SharpeXB
Labels are cheating... :music_whistling: More authentic ways to find your ground targets: - Mission briefing and maps - JTAC and having them provide coordinates - Your MK-1 eyeball - The targeting pod - And realize that camouflaged ground targets would in fact be hard to see from a fast mover like the Hornet. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | 24GB GeForce RTX 4090 | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR
