HP Reverb G2 Announced - next Gen

I would consider G2 . Not crazy about WMR or Steam VR , but at least I would have control over updates , something Oculus refuses to allow . Also , further development of Oculus pc headsets seems questionable at this point . Having said that , i acknowledge that the Quest has prolly done more to grow VR than any headset , which is good for all of us .

I hope HP uses better cameras in the G2 , i often come out of VR to an entirely dark room , and the S tracking is still flawless in DCS .

Except that you don't have any control over Steam or WMR updates!

I certainly have control over WMR , as i have Windows updates off (except security) , and i have read that it is possible to control Steam VR updates as well...

Hmm, not sure if WMR is a Windows thing or a Steam thing. I think it's done from updating WMR for SteamVR.

You might be able to do some kind of hack to stop updating, but not sure.

Anyway, personally, I always update and have never had an issue.

WMR = Windows Mixed Reality .

I subscribe to the "If it ain't broke , don't fix it" philosophy . I'm still running Nvidea 432 for example . It also has the benefit of easing troubleshooting when there is a problem . (Is it the Windows update , the Oculus update , the DCS update or the Nvidea update that broke my system ?)

[Edit] this page shows several alternatives for disabling Steam updates .

That page doesn’t actually show that at all. It just shows how to save bandwidth by choosing your time etc. The one method that does ‘work’ means you can’t play the game!

Not sure what you mean by ‘WMR - Windows Mixed Reality’. My point is that it’s WMR for SteamVR that you run, and it’s likely that contains the updates which are also done automatically.

The trouble with the ‘if it ain’t broke...’ approach is that you don’t get the benefits of updates and new features.

Still wrong , options 1 and 4 will work .

But that's ok , i have no skin in how you wish to run your pc . Enjoy !

Sorry, but, no, option 1 will not work. Whenever you play the game, it will update.

Option 4 is the hack I mentioned earlier. Use it at your own risk!

It's not an argument hopefully, it's just a fact. Option 1 will not stop your game updating. All it does is change when or how it happens. Sorry that you seem to be taking offence at my attempts to help.

You are correct re: option 1

I take no offence , and hope you don't either .

Note that i am currently running an S , and don't run Steam VR . Have downloaded it (twice) , but i find Open Composite for sims that would otherwise require it runs better .

Perhaps we can end this excursion , and allow The G2 topic back on to the rails ?

You don’t like reprojection, yet you’re happy to accept the 60Hz constant flickering. Interesting.

Yep. I can adjust to the dimmer, slight flicker of 60 more than the extreme ghosting and judder caused by WMR's reprojection. I wish I didn't notice reprojection like many, but it seems my eyes are very sensitive to it. That's what happens when you've trained your Mark 1s with games for over 35 years!!!

Two 4K screens would be 38040 x 2160 each. There isn’t a GPU coming in the next few years that could handle this.

I really hope for increased FOV and sweet spot

I rather see 'em not increase resolution as well, as I don't think current hardware could handle it and I'm actually quite happy with current resolution

System specs:

i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU

HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM

Yep, agreed. I want to see bigger sweet spot and FOV. I would also love to see the Index type audio.
