Dynamic Campaign Engine

holy cow you remember eurofighter 2k. I LOVED that game. The engine was way ahead of the time. The tiffy was a blast to fly. and I loved those real tight missions where some F22s would save me after I just LGB'd some crucial bridge and the Russians were all over me. fond memores of using MFDS to calculate how high I needed to go to barely make it home.

Heres the thing. Guardians of the Caucuses was made by the guy working on this engine. It doest incorporate ground combat BUT it is a dynamic campaign. Now you cant really change TOO much but people claim they know how to switch out the A/C you and your men or at least you fly in the campaign. I was promised an email telling me how never got it. but ifigure if they can do that, you could probably but an F5 in there, or F15 or whatever, and just switch who the enemy is. Or you could put the F5 in and call it a mig28 and use your imagination and pretend the Soviets reverse engineered F5s for use to confuse NATO but didnt get enough so theyre usng whats on hand.

Sorry for the long wait ... did you received my PM ?

This is amazing news! Totally agree that F4 campaign is what you should strive for and we all know about DCS limitations.

First let me say sorry for the long periods without updates. For the past few months I have been operating in surge mode and I am now very happy to finally announce that Desert Tiger 76, a dynamic campaign for the F-5E and the NTTR map is ready for its first public testing.

I usually do not like to release things I do not consider finished, but in this case I am simply unable to completely test the full scale and all the vast possibilities of a dynamic campaign. Therefore I have decided to do a public beta test. I do have the feeling that both the campaign and the Dynamic Campaign Engine are in good shape, but there is no question that larger scale testing will uncover new bugs and help with long term balancing.

I decided to bury this deep within this thread in order limit exposure a bit. If you just would like to play the campaign I ask you to wait for the final version. You will probably have a much better experience. If a small number of people would like to help me test and complete this project, your participation is greatly appreciated.

The zip file includes a Read Me with many important information. Please read it carefully.

A word on the DCS AI. AI has been a constant source of frustration. This campaign is very dependent on AI and often DCS is simply not up to the task. Some AI issues I have managed to circumnavigate, often with considerable effort. Other AI issues are annoying but tolerable (like wingman crashing into each other or doing rocket climbs and tail slides when rejoining). Unfortunately there are also some issues which have a major impact on the playability on the campaign, such as:

Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about that.

I am looking forward to your feedback.

Hey MBot,

As one of the programmers from Falcon 4.0: Allied Force I congratulate you. This stuff isn't easy, which is why nobody yet managed to beat or even match F4's dynamic campaign. The basic reason for that is the core of F4 is a database and the playable F16 is simply a client of the database. Many other titles place the flyable as the core (can you image selling to management, hey what our gamers want is a database! lol).

I don't have the DCS F-5, since I came here interested in the Spitfire so I can't try your code at this time. Maybe in the new year I'll spend some money and try it out, though in the meantime I will enjoy reading the scripts :)

Good job.

This weekend I have started on a MiG-21 variant of the F-5E campaign. While Desert Tiger 76 is a multirole campaign featuring both A-G and A-A missions, the MiG-21 will concentrate primary on interception. This should hopefully be a fairly quick matter, as I have already built Desert Tiger with playability for the MiG-21 in mind as well. In fact the MiG-21 version is already in a playable state and I have to do some flying to check it out now. The big task will be to redo all texts and graphics. I hope that I have both campaigns finalized by the time the Viggen comes out, so I will be fully ready to concentrate on it. So LNS if you want to delay the Viggen a bit, no issues from my side :)

Speaking about graphics, you will note that Desert Tiger 76 includes a number of briefing pictures. These are my humble creations, and since I am no artist I consider these to be somewhat better placeholders. If some talented 2d artist would be interested in replacing them with good graphics and possibly add even more (also stuff like campaign splash screen, forum banner etc.), please let me know.

Generally just play it a lot. Here are some things to look out for:

-Script errors during mission generation and during the mission (make a screenshot and backup the mission file)

-quality of generated routes

-missions that seem unreasonable (suicidal)

-structure of the briefing /debriefing (as these are generated from various elements)

-typos

-and most of all, is it fun to play

What you should be seeing during the campaign in broad lines are first an effort to take out Creech AFB and the EWR net, then an effort to take out the SAMs in large strike packages, mixed with smaller missions against unprotected targets and finally the destruction of all targets that were previously covered by the SAMs. These phases are rather fluent though. You should be be able to fly yourself: A-G strikes, escorts, rarely a fighter sweep and very rarely an intercept. You wont be tasked to do CAP yourself, but there will be CAP flown by AI F-4.

The first couple of missions I have now played quite some times myself but I have never really gotten to the latter missions (as I have to keep restarting campaigns after making adjustments). So how well the mid- to late-game works would be very important to find out. But I understand that is difficult as I roughly estimate the campaign is around 50 missions long (perhaps even way more).
