Looking for good pot(s)

Recommended Posts

Sorry had to make the pun. I (kinda, I modded it with a new grip and extension) have a Logitech 3D pro as my joystick. I should upgrade it to something better. But I don't have that kinda cash rolling around right now. I was wondering if I could get some better potentiometers some where that I could drop into the stick? Crazy question I know but maybe someone knows?

Light the tires kick the fires!

I used a standard 10k ohm pots on a tore down 3d pro tied to a bread board and it appeared to work good after calibration. I originally lost the twist axis pots so I tore it down was experimenting and it picked it up. When you change them out and figure out your design you have to use the same pot s for all axis. As far as the same exact pots for replacement I think those parts are special made for Logitech, maybe. There is a couple of post that there is a thumb ps4 control joystick that might have the same pots you might be able to use. Sokol1 is the one the found it just not for sure exact demission's or remember the specifics. gotto find the thread with the pic.

I had these pots

FOUND IT! This is posted by another forum user Sokol1 that might be close to drop in pots but got to take it apart type thing.

there is also this really nice hall senor pots....

In theory it should pick up like other pots but not for sure never tried it and there kind of high on price for it not to work.

Good quality pot's you find under brands Spectrol, Bours, Alps... look for ceramic types.

But you high probable will not find "joystick pot'". Why?

"Joystick pot" is the one done to have their electrical travel between 30 to 60 degrees of turn movement. This type is done specifically for joystick industry.

Commercial pot has their electrical travel typically in 270 ~300 degrees of turn movement.

Instead you can try replace the pot's in 3D stick with HALL sensor (Honeyweel SS495A1, Allegro A 1321/24), will be more easy deal with the angle issue. Will be a bit tricky (trial and error) find the best magnet/pot position., but the result worth.

BTW - Another issue with replace joy pot with different brand/type is their physical dimensions, that difficult will match the originals, this will make need physical adaptions in joystick gimbal.
